    Artist description
Rootsoul can be described as creativity spawned from unity- the unity of five musicians from the greater Syracuse area. Although they lay their roots in hard rock, traces of other musical genres make their appearance within their sound. Rootsoul finds that music is best played with emotion rather than reason. Rootsoul formed in 2002, with a phone call that lead to the collaboration of Adams, Blakeley, Colella and Darling. Each defined their responsibility to the sound, while never sacrificing integrity or passion. After some experimentation, Carkey was added, completing both the sound and attitude of the band. The band strives to present straight-forward hard rock with an overwhelming sense of melody and soul. The always energetic front man Colella aims to inspire each listener with his every word, while the guitar work of Blakeley and Adams is sure to maintain a melodic, yet aggressive edge. Carkey and Darling work well with one another resulting in a driving yet uncompromised rhythm section. The band met with engineer Frank Stepanek in the summer of 2002 to record their four song demo, aptly titled "Across this room without a fist." The demo has been described as a crashing, moving emotion-laden piece, reminiscent of the pre-electronic era of music. While the sound is tight and deep, the ep maintains clarity and enunciation at the same time. Every beat helps to draw the listener into their world. Adams, Blakeley, Carkey, Colella and Darling hope to expand their sound in the years to come, hopefully strengthening not only their music but their friendships. They expect to record more material in the fall of 2002, and release a full length by December of that year. Until then, they will live vicariously through their live performances. -Blakeley/Kohberger
