Artist History
Get ready to welcome the next Canadian Pop music
star: Jody Gibson of Acton, Ont., a green-eyed
beauty with a heavenly voice in the style of
superstar artists Christina Aguilera and Mariah
Carey. Jody’s songwriting abilities are equally
as polished as her one-of-a-kind voice. It won’t
be long before Jody Gibson – Canada’s best-kept
musical secret – becomes a household name from
coast to coast.
One listen to Jody’s soulful music, and you are
hooked on her sultry yet powerful vocals, and
highly emotional lyrics. No note escapes Jody’s
vocal range; no emotion escapes her songs.
Artists like Jody Gibson only come along about
once every decade. A multi-talented artist with
the ability to pull off a Country tune in the
style of fellow Canadian Shania Twain, or a Rock
performance with the punch of Latin superstar
Shakira, Jody Gibson is ready to make her mark
on the Pop scene.
Like many recording stars before her, Jody Gibson's
career began very early, as she gave impromptu
performances for family and friends. By age 12,
the four walls of her family home couldn’t
contain her extraordinary talents. Church and
youth concerts were followed by recitals, and
by gigs at local pubs. Suddenly, it was clear
Jody’s musical gifts would be shared with a much
larger audience.
“Music is the most prolific and universal form of
communication. It’s my inspiration, my sanity,
and my passion. To be able to share it and
express it with the world is my ultimate dream,
goal and desire,” says Jody, who has written
songs since age 17.
Jody Gibson’s dream is about to come true. She
has worked hard to reach this pivotal point of
her young career. All accolades are rightly
deserved: Jody has an insatiable appetite for
honing her craft. She has studied for several
years with professional vocal coach, Ian Garratt
(Canadian Academy of Vocal Music), who has trained
the likes of Shania Twain. While fine tuning a
haunting voice no one has ever heard the likes of
in their lifetime, Jody also finds time to study
piano and dance. She graduated from Music studies
at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ont. where she
acquired valuable skills in music reading,
theory, notation, ear training, improvisation
and a myriad of other skills which help define
her professionalism. Now, through her own music,
Jody Gibson is ready for the spotlight.
“Jody’s performance at the Kitchener Stampede
Corral was a highlight of the Opry North Showcase.
I knew there was something different about her
while watching her strut her stuff on stage.
As soon as I popped in her demo CD, featuring her
own songs, I realized I had discovered a hidden
gem, a special talent.” – London, Ont.
Entertainment Writer Jeffrey Reed
The music world will be a better place if
Jody Gibson continues to turn out tunes like the
ones featured on her self-titled demo CD. Seven
hit songs strongly showcase Jody’s hypnotic sound.
She has co-written four songs with the talented
Bernie Schmidt (blue i music, Toronto). Gone is a
song which reflects on love lost and heartbreak.
In My World is an optimistic song of love found.
Call On Me perhaps best expresses Jody’s talents.
In it, she sings of starting over through the
power of love. Soon to be added: Sweet, another
Gibson/Schmidt collaboration. Jody also gives
outstanding performances with her renditions of
two beautiful songs first recorded by Mandy Moore:
Cry (James Renald); and Only Hope (Jonathan
Foreman). As a testament to her own abilities,
Jody’s original material stands toe-to-toe with
the Mandy Moore-recorded tunes, both in lyrics
and in vocals.
“There are so many women whom I admire in today’s
music industry. Mandy Moore, Diane Warren, Mariah
Carey, Shania Twain, and Christina Aguilera all
have drive, perseverance, talent and ability,
and all touch, move and affect people with their
gifts,” says Jody.
Jody recorded, Story Of My Life (Brian Allan)
during a recent songwriting expedition in Los
Angeles. She continues to collaborate with Allan
through Los Angeles-based EMI Music, and with
Schmidt in Toronto. Jody is also exploring
songwriting and performing opportunities in New
York City. Also, Jody continues to write music
at a prolific rate through Internet-based
projects, while shopping her extraordinary
talents to prospective management and label
representation.
“Jody is an ebullient, driven and talented person.
Her voice is one of impressive warmth and clarity,
and her deeply emotional delivery of songs has
been an inspiration to me as a teacher and fellow
musician.” – Erika Anderson, Vocal Coach 2000
Accolades follow Jody wherever she performs. She
has placed in the finals of Nicky Ray’s Ultimate
Talent Search; Canadian National Singing
Competition; and Nashville North/Cradle to the
Rave Talent Search. Jody has also impressed at
the CNE Open Country Singing Contest, and
Canadian Open Country Singing Competition
(2000-2002). She was also a finalist
representing Rockwood, Ont. in the Miss Canada
International Pageant 2001. The sky is Jody’s
limit.
Recent and current projects for Jody Gibson
include: Open Mic Night, Songwriters Association
of Canada; showcases, sponsored by Just Plain
Folks songwriting/musician networking
organization, Taxi, and The Muse’s Muse;
completing her debut album; touring throughout
Canada; and continuing to write songs on her
own, and with other talented artists. Says Jody,
“It’s such a fantastic rush, and so satisfying,
when I’m on stage! There’s nothing I love more.
It’s also so much more gratifying and emotional
to be singing songs which I have written.”
“Her commitment to improvement is infallible and
her talents and sparkling personality support her
aspirations.” – Merriam School of Music

Press Reviews
“The next performer, Jody Gibson of Acton, Ont.,
is someone whom I believe is one of the best-kept
secrets in local Country music. At age 23, Gibson
had just returned from a songwriting venture in
Los Angeles, where she was exposed to some of the
realities of making it in a very competitive
business. However, her strong stage presence and
highly-professional music and lyrics are signs
that this talented performer has what it takes to
enjoy success in the music industry.
Gibson’s four-song set began with SHeDAISY’s hit,
I Will ... But, and also included SHeDAISY’s,
Mine All Mine, both songs of which allowed Gibson
to showcase her extraordinary vocal range.
Closing with the Faith Hill song, If I’m Not In
Love, Gibson hit an even higher note with the
appreciative audience. Amongst the Saturday crowd
were Gibson’s brother, Chris, and his fianc,
Jenn, who danced upon the encouragement of Gibson.
It was a touching moment during a stirring
performance.
Upon arriving home in London, I listened to
Gibson’s debut album, and was instantly hooked
on her clever lyrics and soothing music. There is
no doubt in my mind that Gibson is headed towards
a long career as a singer/songwriter. She has
co-written three songs which she performs on this
CD: Gone; In My World; and Call On Me – all with
hit potential. Break a leg, Jody!”
