Artist History
DEMURE began in the summer of 2000 near Dallas, Texas. Influenced by
Punk, Crust, Death/Black Metal and Grindcore - DEMURE combine’s the
classic brutality of Death Metal with Hardcore mentalities and Black Metal
melodies. After 6 months of practicing DEMURE began playing shows in
and around the Dallas/Fort Worth area, opening for local Metal acts. In
May of 2001 DEMURE recorded their first 6 song demo at their home and
have since distributed several hundred on CDR or cassette tape.
Soon after the recording, DEMURE began to play every other weekend at
clubs such as Graffiti's Rock Room, Dream World, Rubber Gloves, The
Tattoo Bar, Galaxy Club, Mad Ivan’s, Mac Stack, Canyon Club, Sanctuary,
The Hemphill and various house parties in the D/FW area. Opening for
such bands as Prophecy and Averse Sefira, DEMURE always manage to
impress the “true” metal heads in the crowd, creating quite a fan base for
themselves in Texas.
During this string of shows DEMURE recorded a second “live” demo in the
summer of 2002, including live versions of songs from the first demo as
well as newer songs previously unrecorded. The “live” demo has also
reached fans, ‘zines, and venues numbering in the hundreds. This release
would see DEMURE playing even more local shows, traveling to play in
Oklahoma and even spawned a small tour of California opening for the
bands World of Lies and Psypheria.
Just before that tour, DEMURE re-recorded some old songs and some
new material for a third demo as of yet unreleased. With all this hard work,
DEMURE have proven them selves to be an excellent example of the
Underground Extreme Metal Music scene. Still searching for a label to call
home, DEMURE plan to tour again outside of Texas and will continue
writing material for an album in the future. |

DEMURE - demo 2001 Review By Christine for ShatteredSkull.com
“Upon receiving this demo and listening to the seven tracks it has to offer, many things come to mind… DEMURE are not just another band out there to be heard and recognized, they have a message to portray as well. With their ‘anti-herd follower’ mentality, black metal overtures and death metal tones, this demo makes for an interesting mix of metal and political dexterity. All in all though, for a demo, this CDR is not a bad little piece of ‘creative destruction.’ Although the CD starts off sounding very black metal, the lyrics are not typical of the genre… They kind of remind me of my old punk rock days, especially the song, ‘Earthly Creatures,’ a tune about our own human existence destroying all that is or was beautiful in the world. I have always related most to bands with a cynical outlook on life. I look forward to hearing another release from these guys. Anyone who is looking for some variety in their music should check out the sound and voice of DEMURE. Fuckfaces of the world beware - DEMURE have risen!!"
DEMURE - band Review By Spinoza Ray Prozak for Anus.com
“Elemental throbbing of rhythmic death metal placed into the framework of black metal aesthetics makes for a droning listen.”
DEMURE - demo 2001 Review By MusicExtreme.com
“Here we have this band whose style can be described as sort of black metal with some shades of death metal (especially on the more guttural vocals that are used in some parts and in some of the guitar riffs). The entire recording has sort of a dark feeling, especially in the parts that the band uses keyboards such as in the beginning of "Earthly Creatures". There are many guitar riffs within the same song (and that is one of the main features of Demure) that go from fast one note riffs to more rhythmic ones or some breaks along with the drums. The vocals here are of two types: there is the screaming one and the more guttural death metal type of vocals. Also very important in Demures music is the heavy use of bass guitar phrases. A really good option for lovers of black and death metal.”
DEMURE - band Review By James of DTSUnderground.com
"Demure brings an interesting blend of Death, Grind and Black Metal. They aren't a band content with merely mimicking those that have come before them. Instead, they take what has been done and give it a pretty unique twist. If you are an extreme metal fan looking for something new and daring, then these guys may just suit your fancy."
DEMURE - demo 2001 Review By Gore Christ for Eternal Frost Webzine
”Total Texas necro-metal, worshipping all that is putrid and filthy - and at the same time being surprisingly political for their black metal sound. These guys are pretty damn grim with a lackluster production to match and a ripping aural assault for fans of USBM. I'm not too keen on the excessive length of the demo and the lyrical content seemed slightly juvenile, somewhat reminiscent of a high-school kid's poetry journal, though I'm sure it'll get better with experience. Still, this demo is worthwhile for fans of underground music.”
