Artist description
Spirit of Silence, Rose Moore’s debut for Higher Octave’s vocal sub-label, OmTown, will introduce one of Native America’s best known singers/ writers/ performers/producers to a wider audience—and while Moore is not yet a house hold name, millions of record buyers around the world are familiar with her soulfully serene vocal style from the Pure Moods II release. Moore was chosen by producer Claus Zundel (aka “The Brave”) to be one of the voices of 2000’s Grammy nominated Sacred Spirit 2, the follow-up release to the platinum-selling Sacred Spirit album.
Moore was born in Nashville, Tennessee and raised in Minneapolis. At the age of eight, she began her musical training at the MacPhail Music Conservatory, starting on the piano and then moving to guitar at age eleven. “I’ve been writing songs all my life, since I was a girl, but I didn’t realize you could have a viable music career until recently,” Moore says from her Santa Fe home. Her song, “Yipi,” was one of the most compelling tracks on The I-10 Chronicles, the anthology that launched Virgin Records’ Back Porch label.
In the Native American music community, Rose Moore is known as Cherokee Rose and has released two of her own indie albums; To All the Wild Horses and Love Medicine Music. Love Medicine Music won an award for Best New Age Album at the New Mexico Music Awards in 2001, and also took the 2000 Crossroads National Music Award as Best Native American Recording. She was also nominated as Best Female Artist in the 2000 Native American Music Awards (NAMMY).
Moore’s soulful generosity is evident throughout Spirit of Silence. “I wanted to create a project that would honor the steps one takes along a spiritual path,” Moore shares. “Each of the songs embodies a step along that path.” Spirit of Silence lives up to its name with music that slowly draws you further into the heart’s deep core.
