Artist description
Lumina Polaris (latin for Light of North) is a five piece heavy rock band from Oulu, Finland. The band consists of three guitars, drums and bass. The group was formed in 2000, for a Labour's Day celebration that year. At the time, the members included Welzu, Antero, Matti and Markus. Later in the same year Timo, the third guitarist, joined the band and current line-up was ready.
Composing-wise, the three guitars opens possibilities for rich melodies and harmonies, without losing the all-important heaviness. Indeed, melodies are a very important part of Lumina Polaris sound. Songs are mainly in the genre of heavy rock with influences from various other musical styles.
Since the band mainly tours in Finland, the lyrics are in Finnish. This choice makes the message clearer, since understanding foreign language through a massive wall of sound is often difficult. The band has, however, a few songs in English too. Not to mention the cover songs sometimes played during gigs. Even though most lyrics are melancholic they nevertheless give glimpse of hope for the better and express trust in God.
Lumina Polaris enjoy live performances and tours whenever possible. In a live situation the band considers it important to give audience something both in form of a good show and also in a spiritual way. |
