Artist description
After a head spinning two years of existence, Extra
Blue Kind's no frills, no b.s, original, guitar-based
rock sound is propelling them beyond the
burgeoning Indianapolis music scene.
From the remnants of a successful Bloomington, Indiana based
University house party band, guitarist/lead singer P.
David Handy began Extra Blue Kind as an outlet
for his melodic rock songs. Keeping the solid
rhythm section of bassist, Squirt and drummer
Randee Eimer, P. wanted to lead the band into an
edgier, guitar driven rock format. After a few
shows as a three-piece, dynamic showman and
lead guitarist David Barajas joined the line-up
bringing with him a strong background in funk and
heavier riff-based rock. The chemistry between the
four diverse musicians was immediately evident
and soon gained them a growing audience in the
Indianapolis music community.
Combining P. David's pop sensibilities, along with
the driving bass and dual guitar attack, the band
melds the best of modern rock with the right
amount of memorable hooks and pure
unadulterated energy. The fusion of P. David's
honest vocal delivery, combined with the non-stop
guitar antics of David B; the funky attack of Squirt's
bass and the incessant energy of Randee's
drumming create a unique and irresistible stage
show.
Notable influences include the riff-based rock of
Queens Of The Stone Age, the tribal rhythms of the
Red Hot Chili Peppers, the multi-faceted Dave
Grohl, the lo-fi art rock of The Sea and Cake and
the melodic flavor of 60s pop. |

Press Reviews
"In little more than a year, this Bloomington-based quartet has found a loyal and
appreciative audience in Indianapolis. That's because they're experts at the guitar-based
pop song. Accessible musically, they reach a wide audience because their songwriting
skills are top-notch. No frills, no bullshit, just good original rock music. Ignoring trendy
styles in favor of developing their own distinguishable sound, EBK is one band that will
always remain true to their vision of good, straight-ahead rock music."

"The opening band, Extra Blue Kind, started the night off with a tight and energetic
set...this band could headline next time it plays here."

"(P. David) Handy's voice is gritty and emotional, and unlike many young rock band lead
singers he prides himself on not sounding like a Kurt Cobain-Eddie Vedder composite. He
and (David) Barajas switch off playing lead, although normally it is Barajas who does the
honors, immersing himself in the music. (Randee) Eimer's drumming is tough and
consistent, and he acts as the group's non-verbal leader while playing."

"A perfect union of energy and melody, Extra Blue Kind ranks among the state's hottest
unsigned acts."

"Extra Blue Kind has, over the last year, proven themselves to be one of the most
promising groups in the local music scene. Stockpiling as much critical acclaim as a band
can in our little pond, EBK has crossed the coveted barrier of the airwaves by having a
couple of their singles spun on WRZX and WZPL. It's a deserved commendation for this
substantially radio-friendly group. David Handy, Randee Eimer, Squirt and David Barajas
provide a provocative energy on stage with an onslaught of hooks, melodies and guitars."

"EBK is a young band that has garnered a lot of success as a local band with the potential
to fly right out of Indy. Primary songwriters David Handy and David Barajas have a shared
talent for writing radio friendly pop rock melodies of quality conception."
