Artist History
Guitarist Barry Ginsbarg delighted audiences for more than 20 years with his unique fingerstyle playing and melodic compositional style. Whether performing in concert venues, restaurants or special events, Barry continued to garner praise from an ever-increasing number of fans. ..... Performing all original music, Barry appeared as a soloist on bills with artists such as Steve Winwood and Kenny Loggins. Over the years he played electric and acoustic guitars in a variety of bands, duos and solo settings. While his focus was on solo performances, Barry sat in with a variety of talented musicians in the Santa Barbara area, in addition to a smooth jazz duo with wind instrumentalist Ken Bausano and a Latin/pop duo with singer/guitarist Mauro Vizcarra. ..... Barry's emphasis on solo performances is evident on his three instrumental CDs: "Relax!", "Intuition" and "No Regrets." In his live shows, Barry incorporated solo guitar pieces with ensemble numbers, playing with other musicians or the studio-recorded backing tracks from his CDs for accompaniment. ..... His playing was influenced by a wide range of musical artists such as Russ Freeman and The Rippingtons, Acoustic Alchemy, Michael Hedges, Larry Carlton, Neal Schon, Eric Johnson, Laurence Juber and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Early influences included bands and musicians such as Led Zeppelin, Neal Young, The Beatles, Jethro Tull, Johnny Winter, Eric Clapton and Ten Years After. ..... Barry Ginsbarg passed away at the age of 41 as a result of a skiing accident in March, 2001. He is sorely missed, but his music lives on and offers bitter-sweet consolation to those who loved him. His was an adventurous life well-lived, and he expressed his appreciation for his many blessings both in his music and in his relationships with the folks in his life. ..... This site is a memorial and tribute to Barry Ginsbarg in hopes that his music will always be available for new fans to discover and enjoy. ~~~ Jeff Foster, Webmaster, StringDancer Guitar Community ..... http://www.stringdancer.com/ |
