    Artist History
Dirtknap 29 ( the name was derived from a tornado that struck Arkadelphia, Arkansas in which 29 people lost there lives, hence, 29 people were taking a dirtknap) was the brainchild of Rick and Richard Appleton, a father and son looking to spend some quality time together by making the loudest, most obnoxious rock and roll band this side of the Mississippi. Hailing from Southern California, it would be expected that these two stars would put together yet another pop punk band. That would not be the case. Rick, with his old school influences of Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin & Richard with his new school influences of Korn, Jimmy Eat World, System Of A Down, and Metallica were attempting to put something together with a little more edge, or a little more bite if you will. All that was needed now was some poor twisted souls to help carry the torch to glory.... Now, we all know that EVERYBODY WHO IS ANYBODY SMOKES CIGARETTES.... and here in beautiful Oceanside we have a wonderful little store known as Cigarettes Cheaper. This is where Rick made contact with his first disciple of rock. His name, Nick Zenns. Nick was working as a counter clerk and he and Rick struck up a conversation about music. Rick informed Nick that he was forming a band & was in the hunt for a bass player & vocalist. Nick insisted he was the guy for vocals and that his brother was a kick ass bass player. It was time for the icons to meet and see if they could make it work. The inaugural practice was planned.... Nick shows up to the Dungeon of Metal ( Ricks garage ) but unfortunately, his brother was nowhere to be found. This may have been a blessing in disguise. Nick exclaimed in his loud boisterous growl, ....I know a man, a man of one, who will grace us with his style, his persona, his licks, and he will lead us to the valley of light. He will lead us with only two weapons, a bass guitar & a compass. His name is Stu Fultz and I shall call him at once.... Stu, a Naval Hospital Corpsman by day, quickly rushed to the aid of the newly formed band, and within 30 minutes, there first track, Voices was near completion. The foundation was now set, the moons were all aligned, and the history books were about to get rewritten. Dirtknap 29 was ready rock.... In the months that followed, a new rhythm guitarist was brought in to add a little oomph to the sound. Although this missing link was exactly what the band had needed ( his name is being protected for reasons beyond our control ) , his style was not, & within a couple weeks, he was let go. All of this really didnt matter though. Shows were starting to pile up, and The Gospel According To Dirtknap 29 was being heard from here to Tijuana. There initial set was about 45 minutes of the most balls-out rock and roll punk that anyone had ever heard. There stage presence is something straight out of a video game, with Nick prancing around like a crazed lunatic & Stu rocking like he is having an epileptic seizure. Richs fret wizardry on guitar & Ricks heart pounding drums were enough to make any caged lab rat spontaneously combust. Whether you like the music or not, you have to sit up and take notice.... The rest is unwritten history, 4 guys, 4 different styles, and 4 guys ready to tear the roof off anyplace that will allow them plug in. Lock the doors people. Fathers, hide your wives and daughters, because there are some new kings on the block, & they are Dirtknap 29....
