Artist History
Born in 1956 KAZZ started recording in 1982. Between 1984 and 1987 he wrote over 4 hours of music based upon Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings, which was released on cassettes only. In 1998 he released his first CD Trancedancer (a 2CD as a private release, in 1999 a single CD version was released in Germany). KAZZ also recorded a track called Frank's Tango for the worldwide released (but now deleted) CD A Tribute To Klaus Schulze. As it was the alternative version that appeared on this CD, the original version was never released. Find it exclusively on this site soon. 2000 saw the release of Willingen, which is also the name of the German village where it was recorded. KAZZ plays quite a lot in German clubs, but he also enjoys doing private home gigs. Live reco rdings from these living room concerts can be heard on his third CD Encores@home.de.
Besides his electronic career KAZZ also played and sang in various Dutch rock bands (Eternal Flame, pH Factor, Grail).
At the moment KAZZ is working on a 4 CD-set entitled Monologue Interieur to be released in 2003. An extended preview (about 75 minutes) and more recent recordings can be found if you go to the links-section. FULL STORY TO THE RING PROJECT: So here is the full story. I started playing keyboards in 1983. Being a great admirer of (above all) Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream it seemed logical to follow in their footsteps (with only little equipment). I recorded a couple of tapes with improvised music before. At the same time I read Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings. the initial idea was to record a 90 minutes tape, but the book was so inspiring that it occupied me for three years, ending up with three cassettes with each 90 minutes of Tolkien-inspired music. I did not have the recording facilities in those days like I have now. It was done with a couple of household tapedecks, an echo machine, two synths and a Casio mini keyboard for the occasional rhythm. No mixing or editing afterwards.I still think of it as a period where I discovered how to compose, how to construct the music. Although the first Part was still pretty much improvised, the other Parts were more planned and composed. Looking back, almost 20 years after its creation, I know I will never undertake an adventure like this again. But my contemporary music has developed from here. Last but not least: thank you, Mr. Tolkien, for writing for the most inspiring book I have ever read. |
