    Artist description
BAND BIO: MICHAEL POWERS, without question or doubt is a blues master. Humbling taking the distinct flavors from past blues great and incorporating then into his own unique sound. Born in Bayonne,New Jersey the son of a merchant marine, his mother purchased his first guitar when he was only seven years old with a book of saving stamps. Spending his summers with relatives living in North carolina working on family owned tobacco fields he was constantly surrounded by the sound , meaning , and music of rural blues. At the age of twelve two events would happen that would forever influence his life [this being pre-HENDRIX of course] First being that of watching , and deeply listening to blues great JIMMY REED , who was at that time playing weekly across the street from his family's small store. Second being of seeing the BEATLES perform on television. Years later still a teenager,he hit the road with JAMES COTTON. The road and time would also lead to performances and recording work with other blues great such as JOHN LEE HOOKER, CHUCK BERRY,and JOHNNY WINTER to name ah few without sounding pretentious , MICHAEL POWERS story is none other then one man paying his due's playing the blues JOEY DEE ON BASS played his first gig with Michael on July 4 , 1999,and has been his bassist ever since. Born a third generation New Yorker of Italian descent, began his journey on clarinet in elementary school. Later moving on to trumpet, then drums before finally arriving on bass at the age of eighteen. At age twenty one moved into a crowded loft in New York's Greenwich Village, right off Bleecker st. It was on Bleecker st [and still is ] where so much learning , understanding , and gig experienced was gained . A gap of three years between then and now was spent in Osaka, Japan playing covers in bars. Realizing the one truth, Keep it simple and solid , and don't deviate from the groove. STU DAMM was given his first pair of drum sticks and practice pad by his parents at age eight due to his aggressive behavior on the family's piano. Studied under KENWOOD DANNARD for years before heading off to University of Colorado to study drums and classical Marimba. After graduation toured extensively with his band STEAK opening up for bands such as THE METERS, BOOKER T AND THE MG'S, as well as THE CHERRY POPPIN' DADDY'S. Moved to San Francisco in'95 working as the house drummer at The BLUE LAMP, before returning to New York in '98 to begin touring with blues man SLAM ALLAN. That was then ,"THE MICHAEL POWERS FREQUENCY"is now*.
