Artist History
SInger/guitarist/songwriter and band founder Gordie Adams began collaborating with drummer Brian Nash in the winter of 1998, originally just jamming (although the word is reviled by all band members) to cover tunes in the basement of the post office in St. Helena, CA. Gordie is a city postal carrier, and the basement a fallout shelter left over from the cold war. It was all concrete, fairly sound-proof, a complete fucking mess, and absolutely free.
Gordie met guitarist/singer/songwriter Adam sullivan in the summer of the same year, and they discovered that they shared a love for common musical influences, many of which were obscure to say the least. They began rehearsing in earnest, and soon were joined by bass player Ken Forbes—a friend of Adam's.
Starting in October 1999, Four Eyes began playing in the local small town dive bar, Ana's Cantina, where they would play exhausting three hour sets—mixtures of original and very eclectic and obscure cover music. During this time they switched bass players once, with local buddy Trester Goetting filling the shoes originally occupied by Ken Forbes.
In 2000, Four Eyes lost their rehearsal space when out-of-town post office beuraucrats caught wind of the bomb shelter shennanigans. For the next year, Four Eyes focused on a mostly original acoustic repertoire which could be rehearsed and performed in living rooms, coffeee shops and the like. But, they still wanted to rock out with their cocks out.
With a little bit of luck, The Eyes eventually found another rehearsal room (again for free!) through a band aquaintance who manages a local convalescent hospital. Four Eyes now rehearse in another concrete bunker...although this one shelters adult diapers and enema kits instead of fallout survivors. Concurrent with the aquisition of the new rehearsal space was the aquisition of yet another bass player, Nathan Alfaro. Trester had chosen to pursue his passion for Jazz bass, and Nathan, a longtimer friend of Gordie's, fit the bill more perfectly than any of the previous players. He too shares the musical influences of the Adams/Sullivan team, and has a solid understanding of the true function of the hard rock bass player...locking with the drums and holding down a fat bottom end with a minimum of needless flash. Nathan has been instrumental in pushing the band to greater and greater levels of musicianship, and this new Four Eyes rocks harder, louder, and faster than ever before.
In August of 2002 they released their second E.P., entitled simply no.2, which was produced and engineered completely in Adam's garage using Macintosh computers and Steinberg Cubase VST recording software. Line 6 guitar and bass preamps were indispensable in getting stadium sound in a tiny garage. This year, the Eyes will begin focusing on showcase-style gigs in the Bay Area, playing with other bands in order to shorten set length and highlight the best original material. Keep your eyes out for these guys in your area! |
