Artist description
Preston Camp was born to a Bulldog heritage. His father "Red" Camp was a member of the '43-'44 football and basketball teams and lettered on UGA's first wrestling team in 1948. Red roomed with UGA football player Mike Castronis and the two remained lifelong friends. Preston grew up in Cedartown, Georgia, where he played halfback, quarterback, and defensive halfback. His elementary and high school teams were also the Bulldogs. He prepped a year at Darlington in Rome, Georgia, where he was named to the "All-mid South" team at safety and was offered a football scholarship to Gordon Military College (coincidently the Bulldogs). Instead, Preston followed his dream to play at UGA, lettering at defensive halfback his freshman year. He continued playing on the Varsity; hampered by an injury, he accepted a Manager's Scholarship which gave him the unique experience of working with those dedicated people that comprise the team support staff. He then returned for two more years at placekicker, working with placekicking greats Pete Rajecki, Kim Braswell, and punter Spike Wigelius.
Preston has written country music for the past 25 years. His songs have been recorded by singers from Atlanta to Nashville, Kansas City to California. He has had dozens of songs published and currently has six songs signed with Cherri/Holly Music Publishing. He is a BMI recorded writer with BMI Nashville. He recently had a song on hold with country legend George Jones. Preston recently had a song released on Stephanie Sieggen's debut CD and has a current song on country singer Brian Curtis's newly released CD. Both CD's are available at http://www.whirlwindrecords.com. Preston has been an agent for State Farm Insurance Companies for the past 25 years since he graduated from UGA. |
