    Artist History
Cleatus' conception occurred by chance when the founder members happened to occupy adjacent cubicles at a restricted German Peep show in late 1995. The combined hoots of appreciation and rustling of desperate, frenzied self-abuse formed the basis of the original Cleatus sound. This was allowed to go on for some time before the authorities stepped in. After a period as a three piece, having lost a guitarist to the dark side, the band refocused and recruited a replacement to complete the current line up

*'KERRANG!' (25/08/2001): KKK Six-track mini-album from Brit pop-punkers. It's a misconception that British bands can't do the pop-punk thing as well as their transatlantic cousins. They can, but what they do lack is an MTV or Warped enormo-show springboard or, for that matter, enough homegrown fans willing to believe that the next Blink 182 could be lurking in their own back yard. So Cleatus can gamely put out a collection bursting with shiny, ear-friendly melodies and buzzing riffs and still be roundly ignored. If anything it's a little too slick and polished but if you're a fan of the likes of Nerve this won't disappoint. Gotta be worth a whirl...(PT) / *'FRACTURE' (Issue 17): Well considering how long this band has been around (I interviewed them in Mad Monks #9 - that's 21 fanzines ago!) they really don't have much stuff out, so its good that Firefly has seen sense and decided to put these new tracks onto CD. It's good to see that things are still fast and poppy too, because when I saw them live recently they didn't play any of their old classics like 'Blow up the Plough' so, I was a bit let down (that's what you get for living in the past!) and was worried their new stuff wouldn't be as good. Well after hearing this I guess I was wrong. Because CLEATUS have pretty much stuck to their guns and are sounding like a joyous cross between SCARPER and SNUFF, etc. and the end result is some good old Hertfordshire pop punk wizardry. Yay! (MD) / *'MAXRNR': Syrupy sweet pop punk from England. Good and catchy without being too wimpy (it is kinda wimpy...but it has roughness too, like when you can tell from reading his lips that Michael Owen told the ref to fuck off.) you could let these guys stay at your house and your Mum would think they were nice. In fact 'nice' is the best way to describe this...if you like your pop punk clean, then this is for you. I like my pop punk anyway I can get it. This is super. / '*MASS MOVEMENT': Well above average songwriting and construction distinguish this from the multitude of seaweed/compulsion clones. Cleatus take their influences (touches of Pennywise and Big Country), ad their own ideas and produce something fresh and well worth a listen. / *'REAL OVERDOSE': Six song debut disc, and a good and solid collection of uptempo catchy pop punk it is, actually it gets quite furious in placesand displays plenty of musicianship and know how. Now back as a four piece the bands sounding energised and fun, you may remember them from Snakebite City and Beast of British but this is the best we've heard from em so far, got no qualms urging you to check it. / *'BIG CHEESE': 'fine UK pop punk',' tunes are powerful pop punk outings, all have great little hooks', 'not a bad start at all ' XXX
