Musical Influences
I have gained inspiration from many other artists and bands, people, thoughts and situations. Inspiration can come from many areas, but sometimes, one particular element of a song or piece of music will stand out and inspire you to produce something that is totally different because you put your own stamp on it. I have probably been most influenced by the likes of Jean-Michel Jarre, OMD, Depeche Mode, ELO, Human League and Abba because these were some of the first artists I liked. |

Artist History
Music has always fascinated me, even from an early age I think. I mean, when you look at how few notes are available to us, you wonder how it is possible to carry on creating new, original pieces (and keep the copyright infringement accusations well away from the front door). I dabbled in music as a youngster and had some lessons on the piano and clarinet. I can still vaguely remember the first piece of music I wrote on the piano. I thought it was so bad I kept it to myself. Computers were a revelation to me and my musical interests have since then been closely related to my interest in computers. My first piece of digital music was a rendition of Feels Like Heaven programmed using BASIC into two Dragon 64 computers (that seems a long time ago). A short while later, after being the proud owner of a Yamaha music computer, I discovered MIDI and purchased a Cheetah controller keyboard, a Roland MT32 sound module and an Atari ST computer (Wow!). I began creating my own music and did make a tape in the late 80s (which I later copied to CD) and then, for some reason, I completely gave it all up and sold my equipment - a decision I regretted for a long time. Over ten years later, in 2001, my musical interests were reawakened. Still very closely linked with my computing interests, I continue to create music using a combination of keyboard playing and computer programming. Modern synthesizers are great with their multitimbral, polyphonic capabilities and relatively low price tags. These can create a very powerful set-up when linked via MIDI to a computer. My ambition now is to improve upon the sketchy keyboard skills I currently posses. I am not in any hurry though. Hopefully, I have many, many years to do so. |
