Artist History
Blackporch grew out of an acoustic duo between J.S. Ingram and guitarist and composer, Tim Chang. The two met during the Fall of 2001, and began performing acoustic sets weekly at the Paradise Lounge in San Francisco, attracting a small but loyal fan base of friends and fellow musicians. The two set out to put together a full band, and had the incredible fortune of filling out the core trio with Blyss, bassist and studioman extraordinaire.
The group soon found its own unique style from the diverse musical backgrounds of its members, blending elements of Soul, R&B, Funk, Folk, Hip-hop, Jazz, Pop, and Rock into an eclectic and original collection of songs, underpinned by J.S. Ingram's original lyrics exploring universal themes of "love, lust, and other tragedies"... though always with a twist, if not a tongue-in-cheek!
Blackporch is still a relatively young band exploring its full range of musical styles and expression, but is already off to a roaring start with well-received performances at Ruby Skye and the 2002 Pride Festival in San Francisco. Its first self-produced album of original songs, "Two Days", will be available in August 2003. |

Press Reviews
Every now and then an artist or group comes along that has the pure talent and creativity to defy classification. Redefining the rules of what a band is "allowed" to do, Blackporch covers the full range of musical expression. From foot stomping, funky dance numbers to heart wrenching ballads, this band tells an entire story - from beginning to end. Too often people leave a show and forget what they've heard. Blackporch leave the listener with something to talk about, something to think about, something that makes them laugh, something that makes them cry and, more than anything, something that keeps them coming back for more!
