Press Reviews
From The Rocket (Seattle) June 10 1998
Judged solely on their spanking promo shot, the Dead Letters
could be an Alice In Chains cover band. However, on closer
inspection, this Seattle quartet is more intent on genre-bending
than its impeccable fashion tastes might suggest. Formed out of
the ashes of several local bands, the Dead Letters have slowly
been building a faithful following with their hybrid rock. Their
music is impossible to pin down, shifting styles quicker and
more often than Jeff Beck switches. They explore a little bit of
slow, Top 40 ska, complete with trombone, and somehow segue
it with a metal chorus. They blend a mellow, air-guitar-ready
rock ballad with catchy power pop. It's a weird pastiche, but
somehow the band manages to pull it off. With the Dead Letters
be prepared to expect the unexpected. On stage, it should be
interesting to see how this all comes together.
The Dead Letters are the perfect band for those who just can't
decide or don't want to choose a favorite style of music. If you
like it chances are they play it. If the Dead Letters are happy,
you're happy. Everyone goes away satisfied. |
