Press Reviews
departure.passing.arrival. ::: This isn't the first release by Nihil Est Excellence, but this small 3" CDR, packaged in some transparent oversizre sleeve, is the first thing I listen to from this ukrainian band besides their excellent track on the "Sowing" compilation. This time, here comes three song linked by a common concept and presenting a bit further this interesting act.The first track, "Departure" contains a lot of accoustic noises that sounds a bit like a man preparing and loading a gun. In the background appears a long drone and some microscopic beats that bring something more to this ambient piece that has a slight cinematic side. However, this is only an introduction to "Passing", the main track of this 3" CR. This time, the melodic drone of the previous track dominates this one, and the noisy elements, gone more electronic, are put in the background. A bit like the track on "The Sowing", this is an excellent very ambient piece, that surprises the listener when the distorted outburts suddenly appear. Moody and hypnotic, it fits very well the previous releases of darkambient.net.Finally, the "Arrival" closes the cycle. On this one, the noises are prominent. Not aggressive or loud, they are just distorted and saturated scapes than slides very nicely in an interesting and calm way. Tense and obscure but not violent at all, this end fits well the journey this disc puts into music.Once again, Nihil Est Excellence proves to be an interesting act, and I'm curious to hear more from this musician. More than just ambient and rather varied for this style, this is for sure a band that will catch the attentions of many, and I highly recommend this short appetizer. Nicolas, recycle your ears_______________________________________________prostration (on "the Sowing") :: ... More noise is then to be heard with the magnificent track by Nihil Est Excellence. This is probably one of the two best offering of this CD, from a band I've never heard of but which I'll check out for sure.... Nicolas, recycle your ears |
