Artist History
Fly Tucker knows what he is up against. He's been up lately working with a steady brew of song, coffee, and a variety of musicians who wander in and out the Millennium Cabaret studios. Tucker has been in the studio for most of summer 1999 preparing for the debut full length release on Millennium Cabaret Productions record label. Tucker is metaphysical bynature, intellectually curious by design and has devoted the greater part of his life to music. At age eight he received his first guitar."I knew from a very early age that I wanted to persue music. I has all the Kiss records when I was 10 years old. I was into AC/DC, Black Sabbath,Iron Maiden...all that heavy rock eventually gave way to punk and hardcorein the mid-eighties. I spent most of my childhood skating backyard rampsand writing my thoughts down in little black books. It wasn't until I was18 or so before I started listening to really great songwriters like John Lennon, Hendrix, Marley, and the Doors."Fly has come a long way from growing up in the suburbsof Tampa, Fla messing around with punk bands and skateboardsIf one wants to get some insight into Tucker's mind, a nice way to begin is by putting on the new Virtual Velvet EP.The four song EP comes on with gentle brush work and arrangements dominated by acoustic guitars sparse but prominent rhythms that highlight the warm lyrical content of his music.Fly has proven himself a " master of the basement bred lo-fi poprock movement." Fly's approach has always been on the grass rootslevel steeped in the tradition set forth by peoplelike Fugazi and Ani Di Franco. On board as producer is Jef Hogan an engineer at KCRWin Los Angeles. Fly and Jef met at a class on world music taught by KCRW's Tom Schnabel of Cafe LA fame." At the time, Jef was engineering for Tom when afterone of the classes we got to talking about music. I toldhim I had recently broken up with my last badn, but had acollection of songs I knew were hits. I eventually playedhim a few 4 track demos. He thought the songs were great and then we began to meet regularly to develop and eventually record the Virtual Velvet EP.The Full length debut will be available in Winter 2000 AD. |
