Artist History
1989 - 92After having played the drums for three years with 'Diesel (Christ)' releasing for example 'Tribute to Depeche Mode'-Album and the hit 'Nowhere Land' Oliver Müller decided to leave the band.1993He came to know Kay Jaeger and both of them decided to go on with Oliver Müller’s project 'Culture Shock'.After having changed the name to 'CYBER AXIS' they produced their first demo tape which was well received by many European fanzines.Even today the band receives many letters from fans all over the world especially from Brazil where 'Delirious' was a big dancefloor hit.1994That year had become a turning point in the history ofCYBER AXIS.Having been supported by a management the band produced the tape 'Illusions' containing some songs of the demo tape and live material. This tape caused a lot of interest by the audience and some labels and so some of their songs were released on samplers. In autumn CYBER AXIS signed with PARADISE RISING (a label of the distributor FIRE ENGINE and the agency OTHER NOISES) and went to the studio. At that timeJulie Schottjoined the band taking the part of background vocals and percussion’s.1995In January the first album called 'The Final Sign' was released.Supported by a tremendous reaction of the press and a lot of releases on samplers the band went on tour throughout Germany - for instance they had many successful gigs with STERIL.CYBER AXIS could prove their ability not only to use DAT - like so many other electronic acts - but to show a real live performance the audience enjoyed very much.Having been influenced by their live guitar players the style of CYBER AXIS tended to be more and more electro/metal and in the summer they recorded a new maxi-cd which should show the band’s new way.In September 'The Way I Feel' was released and caused many different reactions but was a success in the end when it even reached the 'Deutschen Alternativ Charts' (German alternative charts). At that time the band was in the studio to record their second album-cd which was meant to reveal a turning away from their roots in electronic music. At the support gig for RAMMSTEIN the new sound was presented to the audience at ZECHE CARL, Essen in December. From that gig on their live guitar player Thorsten 'Cheewy' Scheuermann has become a steady member of CYBER AXIS.1996March 1. was the release date of 'Fool Energy' the new album which had been presented at the sold out SOUNDGARDEN, Dortmund the day before. The fanzines and fans were enthusiastic about the new cd - a mixture of electro and metal - and of course the cover painting by H.R. Giger. This was motivation enough to perform some shows supported by two additional musicians:Haan Hartmann (drums) and Marc Herrman (bass). After the summer Kay Jaeger decided to leave the band because of family duties as well as Julie Schott. At the moment CYBER AXIS record their new maxi-cd 'A Neverending Tragedy' and is looking forward to performing the new material live.1997After CYBER AXIS split up Oliver Müller is on his own now and the work with his band has come to an end. |

Press Reviews
CREWZINE (3.'93) At first I must say that this is probably the best demo-tape I've ever heard. Yes, Cyber Axis, excellent electro band from Germany, plays highquality electronic music. Hard rhythms, great basslines with harsh and aggressive vocals. This tape contains 5 tracks. All are in alreadydescribed style added with some very good effects put on the right place. Also the cover of this demo tape is one of the best ones.Very nicecolor design. So, finally, if you don't have this tape, order it now. It is more that highly recommended ! 'Chainsaw' SIDE-LINE (11.'93) CYBER AXIS is a brand new German act that is starting at very high level! They play hard EBM music full of energy and power with goodmetallic vocals and melodies sometimes evoking FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY or LEAETHER STRIP!! A very promising 5-track debut-tape thatwon't deceive you. Excellent!! They are looking for gigs organizers... 'TSF.' CREWZINE (4.'94) Cyber Axis is surely one of the best electro acts coming from Germany. A side of this tape contains 6 songs. 3 of them already appeared onthe previous demo tape: "The Chase", "A.I.Y.M.", "Somewhere in time". Excellent songs. And also the rest is very good. "Final distress",faster and very danceable piece, then nice "Illusions" and finally marvelous "Delirious". In all these songs they offer us excellent electrowith harsh and aggressive vocals. This tape is surely on of the best. The B side contains their live recording somewhere in Germany. And Imust say that they are surely also very good live band and also that they are well-known in Germany, because there were many people. I wish Icould be there... Also the cover is again excellent. Order this tape now, or die ! And if you won't die, then be ready for their forthcoming debutCD, which should be out on Human Deadline (look for address) by the time this issue is out! 'Chainsaw' INFECTIOUS SUBSTANCE (Autumn/Winter 1994) CYBER AXIS of Gevelsberg Germany, began in early 1993. CA consists of Oliver Müller, doing vocals, programming, and keyboards. Theydescribe their sound as a kind of 'Industrial Body Pop'. Before CYBER AXIS, Oliver played drums on the project Diesel Christ, where theyreleased some records in cooperation with DEPECHE MODE producer John Fryer. Kay was involved in the local jazz scene, but then hediscoverred his preferences for electronic music and played keyboards in different bands. Through their lyrics, CYBER AXIS attempt todescripe 'the horror of normal life, with a glipse of irony'. 'Rud' FIGHT AMNESIA! (7th issue, Autumn '95) 4-track CD-EP digipack by this excellent electronic band, which proves how innovative you can sound on synths and computer! C.A. chose thehard way and aren't contented in sounding like lots of electronic bands, which just make techno. This is a kind of crossover betweenelectronic and Rock, with Heavy Metal riffs, tape loops, atmospheric keyboards, funk elements. Catchy melodies with a somewhat popcharacter, like on the opening, are reinforced by great vocals (Jaz Coleman-like). 'System Required' has also a dancing character, there'ssome 'Frankie Goes To Holywood' touch which alternates with Ministry and Groovy elements. 'Perjury' shows the band from the moreexperimental, yet still progressive Rock (Kraftwerk influences along with a somewhat Creator touch). Catchy chorus that sticks to yourmind the whole day. A worthy journey into the diversified world of this unique band: dancing, aggressive, melodic, powerfull and rather emotional. 'Janis' INDUSTRIAL INFORMATION STATION (?) "Quickly becoming a classic in my blood shot eyes, forget the comparisons to FLA -- Recommended. Still listing to it. Spend the money... Inow want to do a discography of this band" 'Kinzy' "The latest single from Cyber Axis sees them taking on board guitars, where once they sounded like FLA circa "Caustic Grip"...they nowsound like FLA circa "Millenium". They still maintain a healthy amount of electronics. Three new songs are included with one remix of thetitle track. Good angsty stuff!!" 'Al' "This cds is not as FLA/electronic as the previous full length disk but it still holds on to that Cyber Axis sound just a bit 'poppier' - I'm not sosure I would still be a big CA fan if they keep moving in this direction but this halfway point is good for now." 'David' "Second long player from Cyber Axis sees them continue in the same tradition as their previous single "The Way I Feel", being a slightlymore commercial approach. Gone are the FLA comparisons, guitar saturates most of this disc with minimal electronics at times perforatingthe mix. The guitar style varies from the heavy metal end to a slightly funkier approach at times, although having said that, they are not afraidto put down their axes and add a few strings, piano and some female vocals to good effect as on "Your Voice", which is really good and notgenerally typical of their sound. Mahne Meenen the vocalist from Steril lends his talents to one of the tracks, in fact Steril would be a bandwhich I would liken this lot to, the guitar has a very similar sound. On the whole fairly enjoyable, but if you're looking for "The Final Sign"Mark II forget it, they have moved on a great deal which is not necessarily a bad thing. Also comes in excellent packaging, including an H.RGiger sleeve inside of which is a rather original cardboard case." 'Al' "How come bands mess with a great formula. Granted the first Cyber Axis sounded a lot like TNI-era Front Line Assembly but it's wasn't anexact copy - it was smooth, brash, hard-hitting cyber-songs. Now with this disk Cyber Axis is inconsistent, choppy and disappointing. Theyhad it all and lost it - instead of getting better at their craft they got worse and their lyrics are horrible and I quote from 'Simple Machines' -'A machine is any object, that allows us to do the work - with less effort' - that is part of the chorus, I SWEAR!! ... my god fellas wake up!" 'David' "This is my re-review of Fool Energy. The first time I reviewed this disk I was expecting one thing and I got another. I was thrown off guardand then formed a rash opinion of this disk. Cyber Axis 'Fool Energy' is a very good disk for what it is. What is it? It's a coldwave disk thatborders on pop. It still has an industrial feel but it's not that evident without a few listens. I enjoy this disk and still listen to it quite a bit. Theyhave created a coldwave disk that is full of love songs and I applaud them for taking that risk. If you are open-minded then you may also reallyenjoy this disk. There is some good guitar work and good beats plus Mahne Meenen from Steril sings vocals on one song. Overall this is areally good disk but the lyrics for 'Simple Machines' are still terrible, that opinion will never change.." 'David' |
