Artist History
Falling in love with electronic music in the mid 1980's Brighton boy Jon Russell started to tinker with various sounds on his home computer, an Amiga 500 and recorded electro tracks as early as 1989. A forged link with Lionrock, 808 State and K-Klass producer Mark Stagg in Manchester, led to the Tanzmusik EP released on Nice & Nasty in 1994. The four track EP was a homage to the recording heroics of Kraftwerk.
Jon came to the attention of Desy Balmer via some early demo releases and great reviews in magazines such as Future Music and Melody Maker, respectively. Producer Pascal Gabriel of S-Express and Bomb The Bass took Jon under his wing and encouraged his talents, in the meantime Jon built his own home studio. Pascal introduced Jon to Claudia Brucken from the 80s ZTT band Propaganda. Jon and Claudia wrote a track together.
Another collaboration soon came up, Jon was approached to do a David Bowie cover, and he chose the song ''This is not America'' which he produced with OMD's Paul Humphreys. Claudia Brucken performed the lead vocals and ''Frankie Goes to Hollywood's'' Paul Rutherford performed the backing vocals.
Jon is a fan of early electro pop and considers Vince Clarke, Depeche Mode and New Order to be truly great song writers and producers. DJs and artists such as Sven Vath, Moby and The Boards of Canada rock his world.
Most recently completed a soundtrack for a short film ''Behind Enemy Lines'' which got a showing at the National Film Theatre in London. At the moment he is working on some new material. |
