Artist description
"Has the future happened yet", asks Detroit's Year of the Robot, as they define their emerging sub-genre of techno-pop: Brand New Wave. Contoured from an array of vintage synths and drum machines, their music sets
a course for the past, only to find the future. Funky mechanical beats, thematic minimalist lyrics, and intelligent harmonies reveal a musical universe inspired by German Synth-pop, Italian Disco and British New Romantic. |

Artist History
Formed in early 1999 by Colton Weatherston and Douglas Shimmin, Year of the Robot began as an avant-electro improvisation project. As they developed their exploratory sounds both in the studio and on stage, elements of song structure and lyrical content gained pre-eminence. The resulting music integrates their avant roots with dance floor kicks and pop ingenuity.
As the future of electronic music continues to evolve, Year of the Robot contributes a distinctive retro-futurist sound to the mix. Get ready for the Brand New Wave. |
