    Artist History
Aaron Gilmartin and Dorothy Potter are the songwriters in B1. Aaron is a NY based singer/songwriter. He works as a guitarist/vocalist sideman for songwriters in many styles and composes for film, tv, solo artists, his own performance and for theatrical productions. You can see Aaron perform weekly at a number of New York Latin hot spots, playing everything from flamenco to traditional boleros and son. Aaron is lead guitarist and vocalist with Dorothy Potter www.DorothyPotter.com in her band La Cantera. Aaron toured extensively in the U.S. and in Europe with hit songwriter Alex Forbes www.AlexForbes.com and co-wrote one of the songs on her latest release Leap. He works as a flamenco guitarist with Dionisia Garcia in her latest Flamenco show Lorca’s Mirror. With Melania Levitsky he performs the music of Cuban poet and songwriter Silvio Rodriguez in a show titled Sueno con Serpientes. He was commissioned by Lisa Peterson to compose the two and a half hour score for Sueo a play adapted by Jose Rivera for the Manhattan Class Company and based on La Vida Es Sueno by Calderon De La Barca. As comfortable on stage as he is in the creative process, he also performed the pieces on stage on solo flamenco guitar. See www.curtainup.com/Sueno.html .He is also an experienced arranger, and teacher. Filmmaker Dimitri Torgovitsky has tapped Aaron to score and compose for two films; a humorous short with no dialogue titled Manhattan Dog Story, and a feature length film, still in post-production. Aaron received a Bachelors of Arts degree in classical guitar performance from California State University at Hayward, where he won awards for his jazz performances and was granted two years study abroad in Sao Paulo, Brazil. There he studied bossa nova, samba and vocal styling with Paulinho Nogeira. Aaron's solo guitar repertoire encompasses music from the guitar traditions of classical, flamenco, Brazilian, and jazz. Some of the most fulfilling work for Aaron comes from composing and recording for Songs of Love www.SongofLove.com - an organization that creates personalized songs for severely ill children. Fluent in both Spanish and English, Dorothy Potter is a singer-songwriter who writes songs in both languages, and is currently writing and arranging for her first CD featuring her original songs to be released in 2003. Dorothy is featured vocalist of her “Manhattan Latin” quintet La Cantera that performs a mix of original songs and classic Latin popular repertoire in the New York City area. The core personnel of the band are: Aaron Gilmartin (guitar and vocals), Tim Ouimette (trumpet / flugelhorn), Pedro Giraudo (bass) and Phoenix Rivera (percussion). (Visit www.dorothypotter.com to see images and hear mp3 samples.) Dorothy has performed and recorded with artists from many musical traditions among them: Pete Seeger (USA), Philip Glass (USA), Fiesta de Tambores (Colombia), Papo Gely (Puerto Rico), Tico Da Costa (Brazil), Los Diablos del Ritmo (Cuba) and the rock band #7 (NYC). She has performed in venues large and small throughout the New York area including: The Clearwater Festival, Central Park Summerstage, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, NJ Center for the Performing Arts, and the Knitting Factory as well as a number of restaurants and clubs. In 1998, she recorded the CD “La Pluma” as part of the Afro-Colombian group Fiesta de Tambores and in May 2000 she released her first CD, “La Mecnica del Amor”. This debut solo album was produced by composer and guitarist Papo Gely, former producer for Sony Records and musical director of the Puerto Rican pop group Menudo. Dorothy also recorded 3 CDs with her last group, Forajido la Banda that featured her as lead vocalist and original “blues montuno” songs by Gely. From 1989 to 2000, Dorothy was co-director of El Taller Latinoamericano (The Latin American Workshop), one of New York City’s premier presentation spaces for Latin American music where she produced and promoted over 300 concerts including shows by Philip Glass, Los Aterciopelados, David Byrne, Leon Gieco, Pete Seeger, and many other Latin, North American and crossover acts.
