Artist description
The Me Decade is a five piece pop-rock combo from Chicago. Featuring singer-songwriter LARRY O. DEAN (vocals & guitar), TIM FERGUSON (bass & vocals), JEFF GREAVES (drums & vocals), PAMELA RICHARDSON (vocals), and DEREK WALVOORD (viola & vocals), the band is an anomaly even considering the vibrancy and variety of the Windy City's musical palette.
A song-centric band with string-driven melodies, ragged yet full vocal harmonies, an in-the-pocket rhythm section, and a charismatic leader who has been called "one of the hardest working men in Chicago rock" (Home Pride Chicago), The Me Decade defies easy description. Equally comfortable performing in intimate acoustic venues and booming coliseums, comparisons have ranged from Neil Young and The Violent Femmes to The Velvet Underground and Alex Chilton -- "like Bob Dylan having dinner with The Left Banke," is one scribe's reaction. Far from a soft or baroque sound, the band instead embraces a love of The Byrds and 20th Century composers such as Gorecki and Part, creating a Frankenstein monster of beautiful proportions. You really have to hear them to believe them.

Press Reviews
Chicagoan Larry O. Dean has gathered together another talented Windy City bunch -- The Me Decade. This band's disc, "Gentrification Is Theft," should be released soon. From a contemporary perspective, the band's songs sound like Russ Tolman and Girls Say Yes. On a more dated basis, one can also hear wisps of the mid-'60s San Francisco mixed gender bands, Jefferson Airplane and It's A Beautiful Day. Whether the tunes feature strummy pop, straight-ahead rock, fuzzy amplification, psych/pop or guitar pop with strings, the twelve songs are all catchy enough to make this disc a worthy addition to your pop music library. ERIC SORENSEN, FUFKIN.COM
Melodic rock and pop seems to be the forte of Windy City musician Larry O. Dean. Long regarded an important member of the indie pop scene, Dean turned a solo project into the birth of the Me Decade. With a songwriting style often compared with folk forerunners like Neil Young and Bob Dylan, and vocals similar to that of Lou Reed, Dean runs the gamut from rootsy rock to pop and even some new wave. Originals like "Panning for Gold in the Litterbox," "King of Close Enough" and "Time to Kill" prove Dean’s creative and satirical songwriting skills and penchant for humor.
