Artist History
On what do four friends draw for inspiration after years of making music in separate projects and then coming together for the pure passion of friendship and songwriting? "On instinct and emotions that allows us to write songs that touch our hearts" was the answer for the four members of littleSUNDAY.
The new CD, "Day Of Hollow" is brimming with the vibrant dynamics the group possesses, but with an underlying urgency of four talented musicians rediscovering the inspirational drive that brought them together in the first place.
littleSUNDAY has consistently explored their songwriting, pushing the boundaries during rehearsal and on stage and now, with this recording, they're taking their material to a higher level.
The band originally wanted to bring a raw energy to the studio, but instead began to hone the music, to polish off the rough edges, while still maintaining the original feel of the song.
Re-constructing songs in the studio, was not their first intention, but things gradually evolved as the mastery of producer Dom Polito started to show the four members of littleSUNDAY the possibilities. Like kids in a candy factory, the four musicians and friends began to modify the palette until the colours were just right and "the results are quite rewarding" says lead vocalist Rick Farrell. "We're experimenting with sounds, especially guitar sounds" explains lead guitarist Joe Polito "that we never would have tried to achieve by just playing live. Now we have something truly amazing to show."
"Day Of Hollow" was written in the creative whirlwind of freeform rehearsals where the band delved into different ideas, built upon each other's suggestions, influences, and then refined their musical tapestries in the relaxed studio atmosphere provided by producer Dom Polito.
The album title "Day Of Hollow" reflects the sombre character of some of the songs, which was
brought on by recent world events, but without losing sight of the fact that ultimately the message is one of positive attitude.
Day Of Hollow was recorded at AudioFX Recording Studios in the North part of Toronto over a period of weeks, to account for all the musicians' busy schedules. The preparation of the band's extensive rehearsals paid off and the drums and bass track were done in just a few days. As a producer, Dom Polito had a clear vision of what he wanted for each and every song. "It was well thought out, but it also changed and evolved during the recording period" says JP. "The recording process was very relaxing" according to drummer Eric Bonatti "so much so, that when my tracks were completed, I still wanted to keep recording more!"
Upcoming dates are planned to promote the release of "Day Of Hollow".
Canadian tour plans will be announced shortly.
"A collection of 11 songs with a very consistent quality, but varied sound, from New Rock with a pop sound, to harder-edged, to more acoustic songs, without falling into the usual ballads.
A must-listen."

AMG REVIEW:
Resembling a band that grew up on Nickelback, Creed and Pearl Jam to a lesser extent, littleSUNDAY kicks the album off with "God Save Me". The song has a nu-metal backdrop with hard yet radio-friendly rock. Unfortunately the conclusion wanes, resulting in the band taking a tad longer to wrap things up than it should. "Black & Blue" is probably the album's shining moment, a hard rock tune that has enough melody to carry it through from start to finish. "Change" is an uplifting and melodic rock tune that has some spiritual overtones like Collective Soul's "Shine". The structure follows the same path as the first tune but "Crash" has more of a funky edge to it. Lead singer Rick Farrell sounds a cross between Pearl Jam and Incubus on this tune. The rhythm section is also very tight, perhaps too tight at times. "Just Gone" shows more of a pop rock angle along the lines of "The Calling" with a far grittier tone. It's also one of the better songs on the album. littleSUNDAY takes things down slightly on "Tear Me Down", an off-kilter tempo that sounds a bit stilted. Drummer Eric Bonatti gives a fine performance here with some intricate solos and support. "Break Point" has a blues rock feeling oozing from it, making it another favorite with a Led Zeppelin rhythm section. If there's one negative to the record, it's the fact too many of these songs come from the same musical area, making the homestretch of the album slightly repetitive. "Probe" has a certain arena rock ballad aura to it with the obligatory solos and punishing, brooding bass line. Only on "Out Of Time" does Little Sunday briefly take an electric hiatus, opting for a lighter acoustic touch. — Jason MacNeil
