Artist History
Carson City, NV 1986: 9th grade, hallway, Carson City Junior High School. Stoive passed through the hallway when a slender feller with a Slayer t-shirt approached in the pupil-laden distance. Being the new kid on the block, Stoive needed a friend in the vast wasteland that is Carson City. Stoive muttered through his red haired, face covering bangs, “cool shirt.” And Stoive & Splaave’s friendship was born. They soon after began multi tracking in Splaave’s parents’ garage using multiple tape decks, some old school effects, a casio or two, a pointy black guitar that’d impale you if you fell on it, and a few of Splaave’s mom’s Redbook magazines for lyrical guidance. Not aware of the genius of their exploits, Stoive and Splaave, ended up recording Impaler records over their tapes for Splaave’s mom (an avid Impaler fan). Time passed as did bottles of cheap vodka, afforded to them by a 28 year old long haired gnome-type named Jim. Stoive and Splaave knew him simply as: The Buyer. After high school, Stoive and Splaave managed a few recording sessions or perhaps only one that produced lasting recordings. The first CvxUNTp tape was born. The first single off that recording needed a test drive. What better place to do so, than at Club 96. Reno’s weekly alternative dance fest. After pleading with the dj, Stoive and Splaave’s tape was blasting over the PA system and clearing the dance floor (except for a few drunks and goth kids) about as quickly as you could say Stoive and Splaave. Ah, the sweet taste of success. Despite Splaave’s mom’s requests for more Impaler tapes, this tape has to this day stood the test of time. Further along, Seattle beckoned the two youths, where they formed with fellow pal and drummer Marty, the band Numantra. Splaave became weary of and left the project, and that’s when most of the CvxUNTp recordings began to come to fruition. All night drug induced jam sessions became the norm for CvxUNTp. Now, this mp3 site is showcasing these flabbergastments in retrospect with homage to Stoive and Splaave. |
