Artist History
Sula is a four-piece rock band, based at the University of East Anglia
(where all of the members met as first year students). The outfit is as
tight as the music; Liddiard, Smyth, Williams and Smith spend a great many
hours together every week rehearsing, and socialising. In fact, the group
are scheduled to move into a band house sometime in the not too distant
future – very ‘Monkees’ indeed, but not as sober or gay.
The band has earned a loyal following off the back of a few impressive
performances and their solid debut record, The Slowburn EP. The rapidity of
the local scene to recognise Sula as a potentially great live act has led to
vast opportunities for the band; expect to see and hear them all over the
place (including the often forgotten realms of Essex and Bognor Regis).
Sula’s sound is a mix of abrasive guitars, aggressive rhythms and emotive
melodies. The lyrics are intelligent enough to show evidence of thought and
sincerity, without reeking of typical student ‘I just learned a new word –
ain't I clever?’ pretence. |
