Artist description
STEP LIGHT
pastedGraphic.tiff ¨
Step Light is a six piece band boasting smooth vocals, powerful, engaging guitar and one of the most enthusiastic and talented rhythm sections in Boston. Conceived and formed in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in December of 1998, the band got its start playing in American compounds before moving to Boston the next year. Since then, Step Light has developed a widespread and loyal fan base in Boston with their highly danceable grooves and natural ability to interact with the crowd.
Thrown into the local music scene, Step Light has played all over Boston and the surrounding area, at venues such as the House of Blues, Bill's Bar, TT the Bear's Place, Harper's Ferry, O'Brien's, the Skybar, and the Attic. Step Light has also appeared live on WERS 88.9FM, Emerson College's radio station.
Known for their creative, original songs as well as innovative covers of a classic or two, Step Light delivers an upbeat sound influenced by sources as exotic and far-flung as the members themselves. Drawing on everything from summer nights in the Middle East to joyrides on the East Coast, Step Light's first album, Molly's Adventures in the World of Whoa showcases the polished talent of six veteran musicians. Available at Newbury Comics throughout Boston, Molly's has been met with favorable review by Boston College's Eagle Heights [see attached article] and met with great enthusiasm by the public.

Great Scott 1/25/02
Rebecca Swanner
After a woman pukes on the bar floor, she returns to drinking and dodging
any potential eye contact. It's mostly college students here tonight to see Steplight,
a funky rock band from Brighton. Although some may peg Steplight as a jam band,
they're influenced by a slew of artists including 311, Rusted Root, and Sublime.
At the beginning of the set, Hans's mic doesn't work. So instead of beginning with
a signature song, they rock with a short jazz piece. Finally the mic works, and
Steplight gets the crowd moving with their cover of Toots & The Maytals
"Pressure Drop. " Hans sounds like a deeper, sultrier Joe Strummer. After,
they launch into "Calypso Tea," a tribute to their photographer friend Tasoula.
The band roars on this one. Lex wails, eyes closed, on his guitar solo, wanting to
take the whole room to his state. I have to start dancing.
