    Artist description
Shattered Iris is a group that consists primarily of Brian Gossard and Victor Gigante-Hueber. They are song writers of music that matters. Their music is not considered "bubble gum, " but has depth and makes their listeners think and feel their music. Brian sings lead vocals and plays lead guitar for the group and Victor is the bassist and back up vocalist. In addition to their music, Brian and Victor are successful authors. Their current book, "The Insanity of It All" is a fictional history of the Civil War and was recently released by Publish America. Brian writes most of the music for the group, but they collaborate on the production of their music. An interesting side note is that Brian's cousin, Stone Gossard, is the lead guitarist for Pearljam. Thus, music is in Brian's blood and he has been playing various instruments for many years. The group's overall sound is a mix of rock influences such as Matchbox 20, and The Googoo Dolls with a hint of Southern infusion.

"Coming Down" Aucoustic balladere Kind of reminds me of Gordon Lightfoot in tone with the haunting background sounds, but much more straight forward and twentyfirst century grunge mixed in some how. Kurt Kilbaine comes to mind also, but definately their own style. Once around the park will give you a good ride. I listened to the whole page and the aucoutic balladere theme rings in many of the songs. I see glimpses of a wonderful future in the heart felt music I here in the soulful ballads. I feel the best work is yet to come from these boys." John De Boer-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cd review of "The Hard Drive" "Guess it Don't- deep vocals, like a young Johnny Cash, only smoother. This doesn't really sound like anyone else. i like the background vocals. Very smooth guitar solo's, its not a slow song, but the solo is soothing. I feel like I want the chorus to pick up a notch though, to give the song a change of pace. When it Mattered- I like the soft into, kinda Creedish. I like the lyrics to this a lot, and they are pretty clear to hear. I like the solo in here too, this one I like even better than the first one. I like the transition back to the quiet guitar for the lyrics. Faded-ooh, I'm feeling like I should be hearing a harmonica! Music here is catchy, I can picture audiences swaying and singing to this. I like these lyrics the best, so far I like this song the best. It has a Christian rock sound to it…I think it comes from the background group…this sounds like the perfect concert song. We Lose- the voice gets lost behind the music a little…cool riffs though. I like the way the music picks up after the last verse, before the line "I guess this is how the story ends..." this song has my favorite music. Just Walk Away- the lyrics to all these songs are so good, original, and not copies of each other, the way a lot of first attempts are. The chorus picks up a notch, which I like a lot. The guitar has a "sliding" kind of sound that runs through it and kind of ties all the songs together, I think this is what will give your band its "signature sound" Violent Night- so far, this is the loudest track. I like the anger in the voice, a lot of hurtful emotions come out, but without yelling or screaming, which is cool. Hmm, no, I think I heard a yell, its kind of weird, I don't think I like it, it doesn't fit the sound…especially since I just commented that I liked the emotion without the distorted yelling. Time After Time Again- wow, these are my favorite lyrics right off. Maybe I should have given a general listen and then talked about it on the second listen, so I kind of new what was coming so this isn't so confusing, lol. "you more than anyone can make me come unglued"…I'm about to use this whole song as my theme song for my life right now. This song has my favorite lyrics. Here With You- I love acoustic, there is no way this can be bad. I don't know, brian, I think you read my journal a few times in the past weeks…the recording on this song is much clearer than the others. The voice in this one sounds younger. This song has the best sound quality. Coming Down- cool intro. The slidie guitar that I like so much is back in this one. I like how it gets soft and then kicks back in…you almost drift away, but then the music yells "hey, I'm still going on!!" Secret song- its hard to understand what is being said in this one. It reminds me of really old nirvana, even though it sounds nothing like them…I think this is my least favorite track, it doesn't really add anything. Sooo, overall…this is A LOT better then I was expecting….a lot of first cd's leave a lot missing. My only complaint is the recording, it could be that it's a cheap studio, but its got a muffled, "muddy" kind of sound on every track except "here with you". a lot of times I felt like it needed an extra kick in the chorus; something to give it a change of pace. This is an incredibly respectable first recording. Lyrics are definitely he strong point, a good variety of feelings going on. I wish you guys a lot of luck, I'm sure you're getting some great feedback!!! Hope I helped, lol, I've never done a review like this of a friend's music, but it has been fun : )" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------"I just got home after a long road trip, performing ten 200-minute shows, and absolutely eating, breathing, living and sleeping music the whole time. So naturally the first thing I felt like doing upon my return was "hearing" some music that wasn't being piped through tiny little Shure in-ear monitors. As you can imagine, after a trip like that, I needed something fresh and out of the ordinary. Enter "Shattered Iris." I had gotten an email from these guys shortly before leaving town, and I'm glad I finally got the time to stream their artist page in Hi-Fi stereo through some real speakers. It was obvious from the first moments that there was some very serious songwriting going on in Bowie, Maryland. After hearing the first four songs listed on the artist page, I had made up my mind that Brian Gossard is the kind of introspective writer that died out with the birth of disco in the early 70s, only to emerge again at the turn of the century. Brian digs deep, sings passionately, and finds acoustic grooves that mirror the moods of his lyrics in a symbiotic way. The relationship that Brian cultivates between his words and his music is most evident during "Coming Down" and "When It Mattered." These two songs stand out in my mind as a departure from the ordinary. The song "Faded" is the most dynamic of the group, and contains a great deal of emotion in its performance. "Beautiful Day" and "Guess It Don't" are my personal favorites, for although they contain more traditional elements, they are still distinctive and creative. Although this duo compares itself to Matchbox 20 on their info page, I believe that the depth of the writing is better than that. A good deal of Brian's material reminds me of early Jefferson Airplane (Paul Kantner in particular) and even The Byrds. There are a couple of songs listed towards the bottom of this artist's page that remind me of early Bob Dylan, particularly the song "Walk Away." Although it's nice to hear somebody say you sound or write like an artist that has achieved great success, it's even nicer to hear somebody say that your music is distinctive and deep. The songs of Brian Gossard performed by "Shattered Iris" are both deep and distinctive, and certainly worthy to be heard. It will be interesting to hear how this music develops after some time, for it is apparent that these are young musicians who are eager to be heard." ---- B.J. Collins {artist}.
