Artist History
Formed in November 2000 by singer/songwriter Peter Horton and guitarist Gavin Samways, Scotia Road began as an acoustic two-piece playing indie gigs on the Stoke music scene. After a handful of gigs throughout the first year bass player Elliott Delderfield and drummer Russ Johnson joined the band in November 2001, making an immediate impact on the sound of the band. New material was a lot louder and more aggressive whilst older material took on a new dimension with a heavier rhythm section behind them. Scotia Road have developed into an indie / emo - rock band from its mellow acoustic roots (which at times are still very clear) and has quickly begun to make a name for itself on the local circuit. Since November 2001 the band has played at various local venues such as The Odyssey Bar, The Sugarmill and The Talbot Hotel (part of a 3 day charity rock festival) and has appeared with other local bands such as Friends of Ken, and Razorwire. Just recently Scotia Road won its heat of a national Battle of the Bands competition at ‘The Little Civic’ in Wolverhampton which led to a prestigious gig at The Wulfrun Hall in May. The band also appeared at two day local music festival in Hanley Park in June. Plans for the future include expanding to new areas of the country and trying out different music scenes. The band has just supported Licensed To Destroy at The Void in Hanley and is scheduled to perform with Friends Of Ken in August. Currently unsigned, immediate goals are to establish a larger fan base, organise some management and gain some record label interest. The band also hopes to get into the studio soon to record a professional E.P. |
