Artist History
In the early '80's, a young boy in Fayetteville, Georgia watched the likes of Blondie, Cyndi Lauper and the Go-Go's on MTV and made homemade music videos with his cousins in their basement.
A few decades later, this same boy is a cross-dressing singer and musician living in New York City. He (she) is breaking out of the basement to front her own band which pays tribute to the women of '80's pop who influenced not just her love of music, but also her taste in clothes.
Lisa's live performances can be caught around New York City in the following venues: China Club, Elbow Room, Meow Mix, Parkside Lounge, The Slipper Room and many more. |

Press Reviews
"The breathless call came in from Sweetie: 'You've got to come to the Parkside Lounge to catch... a straight cross-dresser who does cover versions of '80's hits as Lisa Jackson'. Enough said, darling: I promptly put on my finest bangles and got ready to go-go. The act? Sporting a diagnoal dress and mall-ready rocker-chick hair, big-lunged Lisa ripped into attitudey classings from 'Heart of Glass' to '99 Luft Ballons' like a wedding-band singer (in Vermont or Hawaii) crossed with Hedwig playing the seafood circuit. The audience lapped it up, especially Lisa's side trips the the '70's (an impassioned cover of 'Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves') and the present (her original song about the beauty of being a freak 'Beautiful Freak'). She's got the beat! -Michael Musto, The Village Voice, NYC September 4, 2001 *******
"Singer Lisa jackson is certainly creating a buzz on the nightlife scene. After years of success as the lead (male) singer of..., the performer has reinvented himself as a crossdresser whose act pays homage to the ladies of the '80s, including Debbie Harry, Joan Jett and Cyndi Lauper. So far the response has been ultra-enthusiastic to Jackson's incredible renditions" - Les Simpson, Time Out New York August 30, 2001*******
Lisa Jackson offers up a most delicious trip down the memory lane of MTV's first decade - specializing in songs from 1980s-era female-fronted rock bands. His natural ability to sing in the vocal style of a wide variety of white pop rock divas is phenomenal. At last Monday's concert, the cross-dressing rocker offered original songs from his new CD (entitled simply "LISA JACKSON") along with the perfectly executed classic 80s covers he so clearly loves.
I'm happy to report that Lisa's own songs are as memorable, rockin' & catchy as the solid-gold hits he covered (no small feat!). I enjoyed his anthem-like original lyrics - always eloquent and heartfelt - in songs that praised the bravery of those who dare to be "different" - or reached out to the world for tolerance in issues of gender orientation... With his realistic "everygirl" approach to the feminine, plus the fact that he REALLY sings, AND plays great rock guitar - Lisa seems poised on the cutting-edge of some kind of cross-dressing revolution. -Robert Urban, Urban Productions, NYC, May 21st, 2002.
