Artist description
Flavor was conceived in 2001 when solo artist Wade Linkert released the self-titled, self-produced debut Flavor cd that highlights only a handful of a large catalog of songs. Having performed all of the instruments on the disc, he won the NARAS/Grammy’s Song Writing Contest in 2002 for his song, "Revolution". Of the 55 mid-west radio stations it was sent to, 46 added the cd to its playlist. Flavor was taken to the stage shortly after the cd release, becoming a group effort with the addition of three more seasoned musicians: Ben Shaffer on bass and back-up vocals, Austin Dingus behind the drums, and Scott Deming on lead guitar. Soon after starting to play live, the Minneapolis-based quartet began winning a number of contests with their eclectic and moody live performances including the KQRS Homegrown Contest, the Jim Beam Band of the Week Contest, and the Best Band competition at St. Scholastica. Known for their high-energy shows, Flavor’s music has elements of funk with latin rhythms and soulful melodies. The compositions resonate between expressive tales of love and regret and driving songs of suspense and cynicism. The latest Flavor album, "Red," will be released in 2002 and offers even more musical diversity owing to the dynamics of the group’s different backgrounds.

Press Reviews
"Flavor is one of the best new bands I have seen in years, offering variety and originality...all the musicians are really together!"
~ JP, WGVX-Drive 105
"Of the many artists that have sent me their music, Flavor rises above them all! ‘Where Here Is’ has to be one of the best songs I’ve heard on the local MM scene."
~ Andrew Kolars, KTOE-The Spot
"Flavor’s song ‘Where Here Is’ is a shockingly great moment in independently produced music & ‘Revolution’ is a tasty combination of Jeff Buckley meets flamenco. Songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist Wade Linkert’s genius is obvious."
~ Alex Oana, Producer/Engineer
"Flavor proves that the Twin Cities can produce artists above and beyond its already clever pop heritage."
~ Wes Shuck, No Alternative Records
"With clever lyrics, ‘Letter to the Editor’ is a down and dirty funky tune that shows this cd’s great musicianship...very impressive."
~ Woody Holt, Indie Journal
"Flavor will paint your mind with quality music...brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!"
-Billy McMahon, Gods of Music
