Artist History
Floakmusic began as an offshoot of a dairy cooperative. 4 young thicklimbed lads working on their families farms in the village of Floak, decided one day that all work and no play made them dull boys. Desperate, they were, to shrug off the dungaree culture and to swap their combine harvesters for a life in the media spotlight. Well, the world of barn dances and harvest festival get-togethers would be just fine. Billy, John, Paul and Stevie were proud of their heritage but at the same time they wanted to break free from the ancient constraints placed upon them, as a transvestite would break free of men’s clothing.or a butterfly would break free from a cocoon. I mean for heaven’s sake, their peer group was either up-to-elbow-in-cow or twisting some poor chaps you-know-whats in a scrum. Hardly stimulating.
They would secretly gather of an evening in one barn or another and batter away on their chosen instrument. Acoustic to begin with, and eventually electric when the village joined the national grid. After many years of sweaty straw munching rehearsals, their careful blending of reels, dashing whites, highland schottisches, reggae, psychedelia, ragas, katas, changamarangas, and various pop and rock formats began to take on a form they could call their own – FLOAKMUSIC.
No soul searching for a name. They were no academics.
They took to the road.
They weren’t in it for the fame or money, just a wee break from the mud and the vet’s bills.
This music, presented for your enjoyment today, hasn’t been created without struggle. And we draw to your attention that no farmyard animals were hurt only neglected, sorry I have to go now, faither’s crying on me from the milk extraction sector
