Artist History North was formed in late 2000 by Connor Sharpe (Bass/vocals), Cameron Warrack(drums), and session guitarist Kevin Wilson. A good friend, Alex Bezborodov, was interested in playing with us, so he quickly filled the vocalist slot, which remains his role today. Originally the band was named "BladeWork", but we decided against the name and went for a simpler, straightforward one - North. The lineup has changed many times; however, we now have a permanent lineup established, aside from a rhythm guitarist. If asked how we sum up the genre of metal that North plays, we would have to say something along the lines of technical, progressive, melodic metal. Our style features in itself the combination of many musical elements, as well different metal technique. North fuses its heavy, yet harmonic sound, with much soulful acoustic passages, creating a unique, original sound. Eventually, after constantly buying more and more equipment we had so much that Cameron's basement couldn't fit anything else, so we then moved the band into Connor's basement, where it lives now. Around Christmas of 2001, Connor got in contact - through the BraveBoard - with a well-seasoned guitarist, Rick Massie. Rick is a huge metal head, phenomenal guitarist/songwriter, and a great friend. He heard about North through the Brave Board, and we were jamming with him soon after. Rick's playing style fit the band perfectly, and he joined immediately. Around January 2002, Rick had arranged for us to record at his university, and shortly after, North entered a studio at Ryerson University to record our demo/full-length album. The recording was incredibly shaky, with many electrical problems, lack of finances/time, and great fatigue just to name a few. For now, the dust has settled and we are confident and proud of our recording, and are looking forward to playing live and promoting our album. Thanks to the many friends, bands and the support of our families, that has helped us and inspired us along the way. Good luck to all the other starving metal musicians that support the scene in Toronto.
