Artist History
Tao Ruspoli is a 26 year old Italian American filmmaker and flamenco guitarist. He was born in Thailand and raised in Rome and Los Angeles. He received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from UC Berkeley and has worked as an assistant to Vittorio Storaro on Carlos Saura's Tango, and as an assistant to production designer Dean Tavoularis on two feature films: Warren Beatty's Bulworth and Francis Coppola's Jack.
While attending Berkeley, he made a number of short films, two of which were screened at Berkeley's Pacific Film Archive. He made Flamenco: A Personal Journey (which was awarded best film of the month at the cine-nites on-going film festival in Los Angeles) while living in Seville, Spain, where he was studying flamenco guitar for six months. He is other recent projects include a film about Havana, Cuba and a documentary he shot in China about a group of Americans building treehouses in a Buddhist theme park.
In addition to making films, Tao teaches Flamenco guitar. He has studied in Berkeley with Agustin Rios, nephew of Diego Del Gastor; in Los Angeles with Benito Palacios and Rafael Aragon; and, most importantly, in Seville with another nephew of Diego's, Juan Del Gastor, as well as Martin Chico. He has been playing guitar for over ten years.
Finally, Tao is continuing, via this website, to pursue his love of academics, especially in the fields of philosophy, folklore, and film criticism.
