    Press Reviews
SNARE vs. THE STROKES I first saw Snare live late 2000. They had only just formed and were a little rough around the edges, but there was something about them that attracted me to them. First of all, there was a charisma projected from the band which very few new bands have. Although they were all young, they appeared to have the stage experience of 10 - 15 years under their belt. The main thing that attracted me to this band was not just their live show but their own 70's infected rock revival (which I am a sucker for). They had the melodies and the riffs of all the classic 60's and 70's bands from The Velvet Underground to The Who to the Rolling Stones but with their own original touch. Two years later and I finally had the opportunity to see Snare again at Club 77 in Sydney, except this time they were more polished. They had become a very tight unit. The classic 70's 'vibe' was shining through their music more than ever, but it still had their own fresh slant. After my second Snare experience I truely believe that they are about to peak. The time is right. The Strokes have just opened the market of that classic rock sound closely followed by The Hives and now The Vines. I'm not claiming that Snare are 'the saiviors of Rock'n'Roll', I wouldn't want to put such high expectations on any band; but I think Snare has the capacity to push this classic rock revival to its limits. The song 'Good Times' which is currently available on this site is good, but it doesn't quite capture their enthusiasm they have live, but then again it is only a preview. I look foreward to hearing the final mix of their new CD. If that right A&R rep comes along in the next few months, this band is going to sky-rocket. -David Emerson
