OXYGEN / SLOWLY DEMO CD
Kinaro are a four-piece band, formed in early 2000. This is their first recording, although more are planned for the near future.
The first track, Oxygen, begins with a jangly intro, leading into a gentle Thom Yorke-esque vocal, which moodily glides over a slow-burning guitar and piano led backdrop. Although this sounds depressing, it is an uplifting track which shows advanced musical capability and a strong voice.
Slowly, the second track on the CD is a bit more upbeat, with a deceptive intro giving way to a fast-paced indie-rock song, with a falsetto vocal, again very strong. The song could almost be Placebo, in terms of music, with Thom Yorke again on the mic.
Overall, a promising demo, much better than most of the current indie-rock bands doing the rounds. With influences such as Mansun, Ocean Colour Scene (their better stuff!) and Jeff Buckley, Kinaro sound very accomplished here, and I expect that future offerings will be even better.
