    Press Reviews
EVERYBODY'S NEWS by BILL FURBEE -The Patsy Cline, who play what bassist/vocalist Jon Nash describes as "thinking mans noisy pop,"has been quickly building a following in Cincinnati clubs since september."We all want to do something we haven't heard,"he continues, and thus begins a frank chat with a member of one of the town's newest sound crashers about starting over, what goes into a song, and much more. First things first though, let me introduce you to the rest of the band. Julie McDermott plays synthesizer and provides ghostly backup vocals,Paul Muir provides stop-on-a-dime percussion, and Scott Wood churns out a maelstrom of tight white noise. "Paul is the only Ohio bred boy in the band," Nash says. Himself being from alabama, McDermott from Virginia, and Wood from New York, The four piece chose the Queen city as a starting point for what was to become THE PATSY CLINE. Here, they have recorded a record, titled "ATLANTIS IN SOUTH DAKOTA", wich was produced by Mark Santangelo. "It's hard to start over," Nash states, referring to his past sucsses in past musical ventures. While in the Cincinnati based MILK MINE, he and Muir enjoyed a considerable amount of press, and more oppertunities to tour outside of Cincy. Much of the same is true for McDermott, who was a member of the band BUTTSTEAK, wich she left at about the same time as MILK MINE fell apart. However, their combined band has helped them to draw crowds.Says Nash "BUTTSTEAK and MILK MINE fans have made up most af our crowds so far." "The songs are a collaborative effort," explains Nash. "All of them start with the music." He goes on to say that song titles like "LUTHERS OCCUPATION","THE TASTE OF SIMPLE THINGS", and "LEARNED ABOUT BLACKBIRDS"refer only to sounds, not words."Our lyrics are basically garbage just based on one small idea," he states. But although the focus is on the music, when talking about the lyrics Nash seems to salvage their meaning by saying,"I always try to touch on human conditions." Live, THE PATSY CLINE erupt in a spastic, demented noisefest that makes THE JESUS LIZZARD and BRAINIAC sound like elevator music. Nash pounds his bass in circles when not spitting out lines like,"I got this truck. Gonna whittle me a crack pipe," before evaluating the crowd with a genuine shit-eatin grin.McDermott, when not coaxing otherworldly whines and moans from her synth, sings lightly, with eyes firmly shut. Wood forces precise chinks of distorted mayhem from his six string soundboard, and Muir crashes and rumbles his way from silence to thundering beats and back again. THE PATSY CLINE have opend for FAILURE and SKELETON KEY, and play on saturday with Amphetamine Reptile recording artists LOLLYPOP. Better catch this band before they relocate, for as Nash tells me,"We have an idea about what we want to do outside of this town."
