Artist History
The band started out as an interactive display demo, controlled by a human puppeteer using a joystick and keyboard. 01, the Capacitors future guitarist, was the first sprite created for this purpose. He was unable at the time to form his own thought processes until the advent of the Power Macintosh. This new platform allowed 01 to develop thought processes almost immediately after his installation onto a new 7500/120. He quickly realized that his existence as a video puppet lacked excitement and meaning. Tired of the lack of functionality that this existence provided, 01 became a renegade sprite, releasing himself from the trappings of his former application, becoming a free-roaming virtual being. 01 was attracted to the Macs ability to create music through the use of MIDI and digital audio software accessing the Quicktime instrument set and general MIDI. He roamed the internet in search of musical structure and rythm to satisfy his thirst for musical styles to emulate. Although 01 was attracted to the electronic sounds of more synthesized dance music and techno-pop, he found that surf rock music provided the raw energy and toe tapping beat that he craved most. Having the singing voice of a Cylon guard meant that instrumentals would be the final product of anything musical he created. Surf music was at its best when it was in instrumental form and this facilitated 01s needs perfectly.01 assimilated as much of this musical genre as he could, learning to play the guitar that he crafted from vectors and rendered surfaces. When he had sufficiently absorbed enough musical data, he simply duplicated himself two new bandmembers, 02 and 03, to help him persue his musical goals. Since 02 and 03 were basically fully functional clones of 01, they had the same musical sensibilities and none of the ego imbalances plagueing many other rock groups. The Capacitors were thus formed and their future as a surf rock group, though uncertain, had begun. |
