Press Reviews
Well, I can tell you one thing- these guys are pissed...'Drink the blood of a Christian Child...' Whoa man! Freaky...The music of Society's Burden is a blend of different kinds of Metal, reminding me of several bands- Metallica, Saint Vitus, Candlemass among others. Lots of chugging riffs and time changes keep the interest up, but mainly distracted by the vocals from time to time. The way most of the songs break from a heavy 4/4 tempo into an explosion of riff runs similar to something Morbid Angel would do. These cats like Metal as much as a teenage boy likes to look at dirty magazines. And judging by the look of the picture on their back cover, they are probably the types to throw down a few thousand beers and go out shooting guns... Scary bunch...Overall flow of the CD is consistent throughout, and to tell you the truth the songs are pretty catchy. Most of them all run about the same length (6-8 min. average...) and have the same basic formula behind them. Mostly written with the verse chorus attitude, but with a couple of one off parts and bridge changes that make you stop banging your head and wonder what just happened. Decent demo for sure... Not for the timid so beware! Robwrong- StonerRock.com Leading off this issue with more gristle than a Slim Jim is SOCIETY'S BURDEN, a quartet from the Carolinas that plays fuzzed-out sludge metal with dirt caked vocals. Nothing too fast or challenging here, the guys just take their time stomping along in each song, kicking up a fair amount of dust in the process. There's nearly 50 minutes worth of music on the Ten Tales From Hell's Trailer Park CD, and by the time it's over you get the idea reinforced that these are some pissed off heathen Southern boys. It drags a little too much for my tastes, but has it's share of thick groove. The band could get alot scarier with some carefully pieced together songs. Ula Gerhet- Metal Maniacs This ain't hick trash rock, this is heavy as fuck sludge metal in the vein of Crowbar & COC. Strong burly vocals and relentless riff after riff in a prime example of the E string shuffle. With just enough variation & originality, this is catchy, very well-executed, Southern fried riff rock that would compliment bands like Archie Bunker & Sixty Watt Shaman. Conan Hultgren-Slow Ride Fanzine Garage Sabbath metal Dixie-style. What you got here are four Sunday school dropouts, that play some decent evil, Satanic shit. The songs are creatively written & well played. I'd bet a bucket of Bojangle's fried chicken that these boy's moms are praying hard for them with songs like "Bodybag", "Die,Die,Die", & "Bad is Good". A good solid DIY album recommended for black hearted metal fans. thee Whiskey Rebel-Carbon 14 The opening track on this CD is called SDG, standing for "Southern Doom Groove", & that certainly describes the heavy as hell sound of SOCIETY'S BURDEN.The band mixes elements from bands like Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Crowbar, Down, Trouble, & even COC to produce a unique sound of their own. This CD is ten songs that groove & grind with killer hooks. My personal picks are the very St. Vitus like "Slobberknocker" & "Rapture", the ripping "Pick 'em Up", & the groovy "Bodybag". Dio-Faze 3 Magazine I'm still trying to remove pieces of my broken stereo from my face. I put this disc in & it blew my system to shit. Great job & stay sick! Greg (Compression)-Struggle Fanzine Although I've never been to NC, there are alot of bands from there that I enjoy. Superchunk, Antiseen, Bloody Mary, & Animal Bag; all from NC & all with a sound that each can call their own. This band is the latest in that long line. Their music fringes between modern hardcore & black metal. The vocals are sung in a deep yet guttural voice, but without the grunting & growling of death metal. Otherwise, here is an example of what NC has to offer besides famous pro wrestlers & championship college basketball teams. Cranial Fracture Fanzine Some real slow & heavy tunes here in the vein of early Black Sabbath & St. Vitus & the like. Cool stuff here, & for the price you can't go wrong. Get out your bong. Night Ritual Webzine Sad that metal has gone under ground, because this disc is about as underground as you can get. Growling vocals & guitar riffs straight out of Black Sabbath. Hard to believe these guys have been around so long & haven't gotten a deal yet. Gotta admire their tenacity though. Bite Me Fanzine With ten songs on here, I can honestly say that eight of them kick ass! Their style is self-described as Southern Doom Groove & it suits them to a tee. Vocalist Walliss reminds me a bit of the Melvin's Buzz, he's a good singer for what this band is laying down. The music is slow, heavy, & doomy & that's fine by me. The disc is really easy to listen to, & I fucking love it. Tom-Midwest Metal Magazine Do you luuuuv metal? Do you like bands who do it like Prong do it? Like Sabbath did it? Here's another one, not bad at all. Sam Gaines-Eye Fanzine This is what this sounds like: Black Sabbath's guitar riffs with Crowbar's vocals, and the music having a Southern Rock sound. I really dig this. These guys have got to be rednecks. Well, they're from NC, so I'm guessing that they are. So what I'm saying is, this is Southern Doom Rock. What an excellent combo! When I hear this I think of bikers, Jack Daniels, & the rebel flag. This is definitely a must have! Oh, did I mention that the guitar sound is HEAVY as fuck? I mean HEEAAVVVYYY!! It's heavier than a car load of fat chicks on their way to an inches a weigh program. This CD just crushes in every sense of the word. It's not fast at all, in fact, it's real slow & laid back. But goddamn, it's ssssooo heeaavvyy! I love it! Chuck C. Bobuck-I Hate You Mother Fucker Fanzine |
