Artist description
Not many people know this, but ever since Charlene was five years old, when she first saw the movie “Grease,” she knew she wanted to be a performer.
At first, her family could never believe that shy Charlene had it in her. But when she got on stage, a transformation took place. Charlene figured out that she could be whomever she wanted to be. For the first time in her life, music gave her the ability to express herself in ways she didn’t have the courage to do in real life.
The end result is a hybrid of vulnerability and fierceness, of sincerity and sensuality. Her style ranges from sweet to sexy to angry to silly, but she is always honest and her songs always reflect what’s in her heart.

Press Reviews
"Charlene Lite is a singer/songwriter who pieces together pensive pop songs, both catchy and calming. Demonstrating her vocal talents and her instinctive songwriting skills, she shows promise on this debut EP. Beginning the album with "Let It Be"-inspired piano playing, "I Wanna Know" is a tender love ballad of filmic proportions. Picture a movie montage of a couple's doomed relationship: kisses in the rain, slammed-down phones and lonely drives fit perfectly with the song's mood. Next up is "Who I Am", a funky acoustic number with cool beats and great harmonies. Lite sounds more like Ani DiFranco here, as she injects strength and fun-loving sass into her lyrics. "A Place For You" slows things down again as Lite takes a stripped-down, one girl/one guitar approach. While her vocals are strong and the guitar playing unobtrusive, it seems like this song is missing the energy and spirit of "Who I Am". Even though the EP's mood shifts from melancholic to melodic, Lite's consistent vocals -- carefully honed to fit each song's setting -- tie it all together." -- Melissa Morris, Splendid Magazine |
