What In The Hell Is Black Lotus?
In this Biography we will give you all the right answers.
We want this to serve as a window into our MUSIC. If you break down Biography you get "Bio" meaning Life and "graphy" meaning Writing. This is a perfect way to describe Black Lotus. We record or write about actual life. The name Black Lotus comes from a rare plant found in swamp-like areas or ponds in the east. The Lotus plant has had a life similar to the members of this group. Starting deep in the murky depths of urban drama, struggling to rise to the surface and rising for all to see and cherish.
Black Lotus consists of three members, Bolo Gah (King Cee), Dragon Fly (Born Wise), and Long Axe (Tarkwan Universal).
*Bolo is the DJ/Producer for the group. His depth in music is not isolated to the hip hop or R&B genres; you might catch him merging elements in classical, jazz, or even Rock music. Bolo is constantly pushing the limits with his production to maintain fresh material.
*Next is Dragon Fly, and I must say much responsibility comes with a name like this. Dragon Fly is no mythical character He's as real as they come and a force to be reckoned with on the mic. Some have called him "The Kid with the Golden Voice", because when he enters a track the listener is tranquilized by the seemingly effortless borage of hard and soft flows. You feel his pain and celebrate his joys. Dragon meaning a combination or variation of styles and fly meaning, well we all know what that means.
*Last is Long Axe or General Kwan as he is sometimes referred to. Axe's style is a vision of passion and insight that will capture your attention immediately. He comes off in a patient, meticulous fashion, often spitting pictures of victory and defeat in an honest up close inner diary. He has seen a lot come and seen a lot go but his goals are set on staying- staying on top!
*But wait there is a fourth member of the group who has equally contributed to their successful chemistry. His name is Scientific and he's the manager/ hip-hop historian/ life analyst all rolled into one. He keeps the groups visions grounded and their creative direction focused.
"It aint no Science Project Baby Lets Do This!!!"
Now that you've had the chance to learn a little more about the group and its members, let's define their Music.
The music is not made to be boxed in because it has so many faces and forms. It is available for all the emotions to use. It can be underground or radio (digestible), it can rock an intimate club or a wide open coliseum. It's audio and visual mood music.
A little history: The Black Lotus sound hit the scene in the early 90s as members of the group called The Beggas. At this time the 9 member entourage had been tagging the underground scene with a unique sound and stage show. Their first official release was a single called "Supernatural" that proved the members skills to be just that. Next was a compilation on the Wu Tang, Killer Bees "The Swarm" album. The song is called "On the Strength" and is opened by Long Axe and Dragonfly providing the first two verses on the song. On the Strength would be the last song The Beggas would do together that included Dragon Fly and Long Axe. Now Black Lotus is facing a New Beginning, A new direction and new formula for success.
"We are dedicated to the music that gave us so much coming up, It helped us appreciate our generation and express our views creatively, So naturally we aim to set things right".
This is the attitude Black Lotus takes toward producing good music for the young and the old listeners.
Remember we are coming from the same muddy pond climbing to the surface, Every day is a struggle every song is a voice to be heard.
Black Lotus is writing about life, past present and future.
