Artist History
With the enormous amount of talent flowing through the Austin music scene, it is hard to believe that a band based on simplicity could have such rapid success as the Tallboys. When one of their finely-crafted tunes hits the ear drum, there is no room for doubt. Driven by catchy vocal melodies and moving chord progressions, the two singer/songwriters, Ricky Stein (Bassist) and Stuart Burns (Guitarist), have developed a style that is true to Texas while Universally appealing. So appealling, in fact, that since their first show in early June 2002, the Tallboys have been booked at the Six of Clubs, The Pier, Momo's, The Sidecar Pub (Houston, TX), and Antones, just to name a few. To give a clearer perspective of the Tallboys' sound, it is necessary to look at the three individuals who comprise the band:
Stuart Burns: Guitar/Vocals --
Influences: Stevie Ray Vaughan/Pearl Jam --
Smoothe, interchanging mix of lead and rythm guitar gives the band its hard-edged, bluesy feel. Powerful vocals contrast and complement Stein's perfectly.
Ricky Stein: Bass/Vocals --
Influences: The Beatles/Bob Schneider --
Simple melodic basslines connect bluesy guitar to heavy drum beats. Versatile vocals capable of expressing any emotion.
Jason Cardenas: Drums --
Influences: Nirvana/Weezer --
Solid backbone of forceful drumming gives the Tallboys a hard but not excessive dynamic effect.
When the three musicians come together with their distinct styles, an undeniably distinguished product is the result. When added with their charm and on-stage humor, it is easy to fall in love with this band that surges with potential. But the best way to find out is to observe the band for yourself. If you go to a Tallboys show, it will not be your last. |
