Artist History
David "I-5" Olivas started writing song lyrics around the age of 13. Though he mostly wrote for his own entertainment, he once gave 10 or so songs to his older friend Denny Schuster, a locally renowned guitarist. Denny in turn passed on the lyrics to an A&R rep from BMG music who was scouting him, and the man was impressed enough to take the lyrics back to California with him. Though the songs eventually came back in the mail with encouraging words to "keep writing", David took the refection as only the beginning.
Over the years, David says, he's written "over 400" songs, mostly rap but also ranging from r&b to alternative, from gospel to rock. He didn't start recording until late 2001, however, and intended to keep the first three tracks he ever cut ("Heaven lost an Angel", "Late at night", and "I wonder why") to himself and close friends. However, local interest among peers started generating, and thus encouraged, David went on to produce and record fiveteen or so more cuts in what eventually was narrowed down to thirteen total, and became his upcoming debut CD, "Weathered."
Taking on the stage name I-5, after the famous interstate freeway that runs through his home state Western Washington, David is now preparing to relase his debut CD later this summer. |
