Artist History
AeTopus is Bryan Tewell Hughes, who composes and produces his unique brand of instrumentals from his Bellingham, Washington studio. After having played bass guitar in numerous Pacific Northwest bands, he assembled his own studio in 1997. Armed with this newly-established sovereignty, he produced the critically acclaimed social/political album "AnthroPile: Take" in 1999, then turned his attention to his love of ambient, mood-creating soundscapes. Over the next two years, "AeTopus: Memories of the Elder" took form, and its completion marks the beginning of what he pledges to be an ongoing, evolving project... |

Press Reviews
"This is a huge CD!...this unique hybrid has something for everybody." -Jim Brenholts, Ambient Visions
"I have played a variety of tunes from this album on my radio show, attesting to how "accessible" this music is, yet no trace of new age syrup nor overly slick pop-ism exists on this remarkable debut recording...what makes the work of AeTopus/Hughes so remarkable is how fresh all this sounds. There is no trace of faux sentimentality and no attempt to play it safe on this CD. While it's nothing if not accessible, it's also an exciting and different take on keyboard music that I never grew tired of, even when I played it back-to-back. I can't offer a stronger endorsement than that." -Bill Binkelman, Wind and Wire |
