    Artist description
This is Darkwave. This is Sum Demeana. Music that exploits and subverts its industrial metal and gothic roots to travel the length of human emotion. Darkness in the soul of modern man, touching the shadowy core within our psyche, brought to vivid life through Sum Demeana. Music of and for the twenty first century. Cynicism and frailty, bitterness and surrealism. Technically brilliant, Sum Demeana lift and give expression to this ambient darkness through their seductively hard mix of low-key vocals and fluid but dirty bass lines. They successfully combine this strange blend of fragility and strength, hard metal with a melancholic techno edge. Bitterness tinged with an apocalyptic calm. This is darkwave. This is Sum Demeana.

    Press Reviews
The year is 2002. Sum Demeana's intriguing musical hybrid is the antidote to the saturation of mindless music by numbers that's been pervading the airwaves for too long. People are ready to listen to their masterfully selected backing tracks, melodious guitar riffs and dark, battered bass lines woven around voluminous vocal layers. It's an unusual concoction of aural art capable of kidnapping people's awareness like the most forceful Pied Piper. Stop. Rewind. The year is 2001. The venue, a dingy East End pub on a parallel world. Alec and Jez have been comrades for a long time, their sweat having greased a myriad of six and four string guitars (their past achievements must currently be kept under wraps for their own safety). Unable to wind down in between projects, they decide to face, together, the ultimate mission: build a unique, dark cross-breed of music featuring an atypical orgy of melody and angst. "I like ambiguity," mutters Alec cautiously. "I like to think that we're not quite understood." Disregarding all tradition-laden concepts, Alec and Jez do away with holding auditions for a vocalist and drummer. They creep around various music venues throughout Britain instead, searching for the perfect android to take the lead under the spotlight and the ideal precision freak to sit tight behind the kit. Frosty, feral, fiendish Brooke, with her warm vocal athletics, is a walking contradiction of feistiness and vulnerability. Torn between her love to perform and her inability to communicate on any other level, Brooke's input in Sum Demeana is counter balanced by the fresh enthusiasm of rhythm merchant, Tony, Jez' partner in crime on another big, covert operation. After a bunch of live appearances around various clubs in London, including a mini UK tour supporting Miles Hunt, Sum Demeana have managed to raise people's right eyebrows in the right circles. Stop. Fast-Forward. © Patrizia Mazzuoccolo
