Artist description
A native of South Florida, Matt Farr started his musical journey from private piano and vocal lessons to a scholarship at the University of Miami in music. With both parents' musicians themselves, Matt was blessed with a natural ability to play, sing and compose music. He began cultivating his talent at the age of seven. It was shortly after that when he began his formal training in piano and continued with his passion while playing in "jazz bands" each year throughout high school and joined his Father on stage in a dance band.
At age 16 Matt began his more serious voice training and studied classical piano with Julliard graduate and concert pianist, Dr. Robert Sharon for one year. His formal study of classical piano and voice continued on with South Florida's well-known opera singer, Carolyn Stanford. Additionally, Matt pursued his education in Music at the University of Miami where he attended for one year and studied studio music and jazz vocals. While at the University of Miami, Matt performed with numerous groups including jazz vocal ensembles and other small jazz forums. The music program at the University created the perfect environment for Matt to compose and write his own music.
After leaving the University of Miami, Matt performed at local private functions, events and played keyboards for a brief period with a Chicago-based group known as, The Jenkins Band. Matt has also contributed pro-bono musical performances and leadership for his parish. For the past several months, he has accompanied the local youth music ministry.
Matt has now set out on his own and has spearheaded numerous studio projects including a debut CD and is currently writing all styles of music from jazz to modern rock and even electronica. He continues his formal study even today with New York and South Florida jazz pianist, Patti Wicks.
His stage presence is commanding and his style is very unique. He is backed up with world class guitarist, drummer, bassist and keyboardist. Matt has been compared to other artist from Lenny Kravitz, Sting to Nine Inch Nails but he definitely has created his own raw sound. He is young, vibrant and ready to take on the music world.
