Artist description
Gein and the Graverobbers have established themselves as Boston's premiere instrumental Horror Surf quartet. What is "Horror Surf?" Its Fender guitars saturated in reverb, shredding through high-energy songs brimming with horror and oozing atmosphere. With Gein, Kemper, and DeSalvo decked out in torn black suits, ties and zombie make-up -- and Myra in her mini skirt and go-go boots -- the band looks like a cross between characters from a Tarantino film and something out of "Night of the Living Dead." The amps adorned in skeletons and jack-o-lanterns lend a haunted house feel to the stage presence. When these go-go ghouls mix the traditional surf sounds of artists like Dick Dale with the eeriness of the Cramps, they take their audience into a world of B-movie horror. Gein and the Graverobbers are like a musical score to sixties B-rate horror and science fiction movies.
Gein and the Graverobbers, debut full-length CD entitled "Hang Ten with Gein and the Graverobbers is the follow up to 2000's "Humanoids from the Deep." Humanoids was the ghastly gore-tet's first release, a five song EP that won the band critical acclaim. Most of the tracks on Hang Ten have a fast-paced double picking style and a melody that delves the listener into the eerie world of Gein and the Graverobbers. The melodies are haunting and full of the kind of creepy mood you'd find in that old abandoned house up on the hill that none of the kids will go near at night. However, each track maintains the catchy surf style, which makes the music accessible to all audiences. You're sure to lose your head (literally) over this Spook-Tacular album! Fresh off their seconde European tour, Gein and the Graverobbers is now recording their next cd due out this fall.
While the theme of the band is definitely horror, the overall feeling of the live show is fun and energetic. The crowd likes to dance to the catchy melodies and there is always plenty of audience participation in songs like "Spectre Stomp" and "Camp Blood." With their unique horror surf style Gein and the Graverobbers catches all of the campy thrills of 60's horror and puts the "fun" back in funeral.

Artist History
Gein founded Gein and the Graverobbers in the winter of 1997-98. The band was originally known as The Undertaker and His Pals but was changed to avoid confusion with the wrestler, "The Undertaker." The band has gone through only a couple of line up changes over the past three years. In order to release the band's debut 7" EP, "Humanoids from the Deep" Gein started his own label, Necro-Tone Records. When Gein isn't writing music or watching horror movies he enjoys finding animal carcasses, boiling off the remaining flesh and making artwork out of the bones. |
