Artist description
in the form of a standard 4 piece, FIGHT LIKE FIGHT has developed a unique sound based on their indie rock foundation. best discribed as noise-pop with equal parts math and post-rock, e.e. is fronted by a powerful female vocalist. lyrics are well placed, ranging from angelic to violent and back again and often give way to instrumental surges. complimentary use of counter rhythms, interdependant guitar lines, subtle hooks, and abandonment of cliche' song structures are other integral elements. live performances are energetic, engaging and at points deceptively teeter on the verge of chaos. |

Artist History
The originally named ESCAPE ENGINE formed in the fall of 2001 by Ash
and Greg, who previously played together in SOMETIMES Y
and Greg's side project, RODEO PROGRAMMERS. while searching
for suitable rhythm players, a mutual friend
hooked them up with the talent of Ian. a few weeks later,
Ian was able to recruit longtime friend and previous
LIFE IN BRAILLE bandmate, Jay, to handle bass duties.
after working out the material Greg and Ash had
written, escape engine began utilizing jay and
ian's talents beyond rhythm support and started
group writing in some very exciting directions.
after 3 months of songwriting and practice, ee began
playing shows in their local sonoma county with such
acts as 'the velvet teen', 'benton falls', and 'the
gloria record' to name a few. a trip to grizzly studios
in june 2002 yielded 6 songs, 3 of which were released
in january of 2003 on an untitled split EP with friends,
'The Set Up' on 'stereovein records'. Summer 2003 saw progress and change.
A successful northwest tour, a new full lenth recorded, and a new
name for the band: FIGHT LIKE FIGHT. |

Press Reviews
review of the split from 'THE BOHEMIAN'(1/8/03):
"the ep is a strong debut effort from 2 of the
northbay's most promising newer bands. ash
scheiding's scratchy and screetchy vocals add
a punk element to escape engine's (F.L.F.) emo-y
loud/soft arrangments-perhaps like cursive
were tim kasher a girl. the set up attacks
it's songs with a vengence and even with a
title like, 'i need to weat some pants', it's
deep dark stuff."-sara bir,
.......taken from the 'prime grade' piece
of 'SECTION M MAGAZINE' (8/03): "crisp,
lego-locking guitar and bass lines,
and pounding fight-or-flight drums
rock the dissonant-to wagnerian
indie-rock tip, with sparse, growling,
and raw girl vocals that function
more like one of the instruments than
a central focus, and bite off some of
the same register of Throwing Muses or
Sleater Kinney with just a hint of
Courtney Love. This north bay band is'nt
much more than a year old formed from
ex-members of Life In Braille and Sometimes Y,
but is rapidly becoming one of the it-bands
of the indie rock and indie hardcore scenes."
