Artist History
Although the name cloudbreak came about in late 1997, the
band didn't really come together until late 1998 with the addition
of bass player Ryan LaHam and vocalist/front-man Jeremy
Simon. At this point, the band had the essentials to add to the
already huge sound that Guitarist Andrew (Drew) Yount and
Drummer Vince Barill had been creating for the previous year
through their up-tempo, aggressive alternative, original |

Group Members
Vince Barill and Andrew Yount created cloudbreak in late 1997
as an instrumental duo capable of a huge array of aggressive
alternative and rock sounds - reminiscent of RUSH and Incubus
with a bit of 311. Playing as a duo performing purely original
music at places like the Eight by Ten, Carl Reefers, Baltimore
International Festival, The Vault, and Café Tattoo, the guys
created a large and steady following and were able to build a
sound as large as a 4 piece group. One of the most frequent
comments heard at a concert was, "I can't believe that's just
two guys!" However, despite that huge sound and steadily
increasing following, Vince and Drew knew they needed a bass player to take some of the heat off of
Drew so that he could concentrate more on pure guitar. And, they needed a vocalist so that the lyrics
they had been compiling to compliment the instrumental work could finally be incorporated into their
music.
As luck would have it, in mid 1998, while playing at "open mike" night at The Eight by Ten, Vince and
Drew would meet Ryan LaHam - bass player for the band 'Between the Two.' Ryan was immediately
drawn to cloudbreak's sound and introduced himself to the guys. About 2 months later, Ryan's band split
up and after a few phone calls and an audition, the third member of cloudbreak was official. Within a few
weeks, Ryan had learned the cloudbreak originals and they were again playing at the Eight by Ten. The
impact of Ryan's bass and his technique were immediate and obvious!
The last piece of the puzzle fell together in late 1998 when Jeremy Simon heard about the band through
friends. Given a tape of the originals and lyric sheets, Jeremy learned the music and with both his vocal
range and up-front style, he so impressed the rest of the guys that they immediately asked him to join the
band.
Quickly cloudbreak started to attract much more attention
with an even larger original sound and the inclusion of a huge
array of popular cover material - consistently playing at
places like Putty Hill Station, The Hurricane in Ocean City,
The Recher Theatre, The Hard Rock Café, Fat Daddy's (York,
Pa.), Fletchers, Eastport Clipper, The Eight by Ten,
Champion Billiards (Baltimore, Laurel, and Rockville), Towson
Town Festival (WHFS stage), Baltimore International Festival,
and Camden Yards. Also, the band has fronted popular,
established bands such as BURN and RCA recording artist
SR71. The band has been gaining strength and drawing large
crowds wherever they play.
The band now draws over 200 people on a Wednesday night at Putty Hill Station and recently had their 1
Year Anniversary with Putty Hill Station and played to a crowd of over 350 people. The band feels at home
in front of a large or small crowd and it's easy to see they enjoy what they are doing! And their ability to
"rock the house" with both originals and popular covers make them extremely versatile.
In addition to the now busy performance schedule, the band also found time during the summer and fall of
1999 to record their first CD at Secret Sound Studios. The self-titled CD contains 8 of the bands first
originals, which have been a huge hit with fans wherever they play. Putty Hill Station hosted cloudbreak's
debut CD release party on April 29th,, 2000 to the largest crowd the club has ever had. Over 350 people
attended the party and gave the band a wildly enthusiastic reception. The band sold over 200 copies of
their CD that night and their popularity has started to create a major buzz at local radio stations and
throughout the Baltimore music scene. Since that time the band has sold close to 800 CD's. The guys
will be going back into the studio in late 2000 to start recording their second CD.
Cloudbreak offers incredible covers, awesome originals and promise a night of fun wherever they perform!
The band has a sense of constant optimism and 2000 promises to be yet another year of growth |
