Artist History
Tom Tripp was born in 1948 in Kansas City as the youngest of 7 children . His family moved to Shawnee, Kansas when he was 4 month old, just after his Grandfather ( Louis Calvin Tripp) passed away , leaving Tom's mother & father his farm there.
Tom was raised in the area of Ice boxes, wood & coal stoves & the Grand Olli' Opera on TV, 78 RPM records & being able to leave doors unlocked & large family get together on holiday
, Tent Meeting, & being raised in a Country Church that was the corner stone, not only for his family but ever family that attended it . God has always played a big role in Tom's life .
At the age of 8 Tom contracted Polio & was hospitalized for 1 year.
During that time he was in a coma for about 6 months & an iron lung , so he was able to breath, for another 4 month.
While Tom was in the coma his heart stop beating for 3 min & was started again after his father's crying voice was herd from the other side.
( More of this part later)
In 1961 Tom's family moved out of the 4 room farm house & into a larger home in Shawnee
that was closer to the schools & to their work.
After Tom completed high school at the age of 17 he decided to move to NYC for a few months & see what life was like there, after spending his hole life in the country this was a BIG move for him
so he packed his things in a few suitcases and catch the train east.
The year was 1969, the year of Woodstock, hippys, folk singers, & a world the would catch Tom's life forever.
Later he would recall that year as the year in which he became a man but nearly lost his soul.
In 1970 Tom moved back to his hometown but after living in the fast moving & sometimes very hard world of NYC (1969) he knew he had other sunsets to see & oceans to touch.
He Moved to Boulder CO in 1972 after visiting there a few times with an old school friend & his wife that moved there in "69''
Tom setup house keeping out side Boulder CO for 2 years & later he would say whatever he lost in NYC he found again in the mountains that surrounded his home there.
1975 Tom return to his home town after the wealthy land developers bought most of the open land around Boulder & started to build their new homes & Condos (as Tom would call them "Mans scars upon the land & tears within the eyes of eagles."
Tom carries his love for the Lord into the music that he writes. such as "God's Tool Box" which talks about everyone one of God's children being one of God's tools. Also God having a purpose for every one of his tools.
His song "Angel School" is his attempt to explain Life & death to his son (based on a true conversation he had with his 5 year old son years ago.
Tom also carries his love for family & life into his country songs. He has written, such as "My Perfect World" which speaks about how it would be in a troubled marriage and if he could only create the perfect world, where so many wrongs would be made right. (this is based on his own life).
Tom's song "Illusion's" speaks about how sometimes marriage & relationships come to an end, not because someone is mistreating someone, but sometimes because of what people are seeing in their relationships. Nothing but the illusion of true loves.
"Its feels like love & it looks like love but it was only a illusion of what they wanted to see, what they needed to see and it#s only a illusion that wasn't meant to be"
Tom writes most of his songs about things he has experienced in his own life ( illusions tells of his own failed marriage & the how neither him or his ex wife was really at fault but how it was only an illusion of the love they wanted & needed to see at that time in their life's.
In 1978 Tom's father went to join God in Heaven & this deeply touched Tom in many ways.
His father was born in 1903 in a South East Kansas coal camp.
Tom grew-up listening to story's his father would tell him about how the miner would only get paid a few cents after working in the coal minds all week & was paid-in what they called script notes (scripted notes was like an IOU & since the coal mine owner own the only general store around they would have to traded the worth of the script notes to the store for food to feed their familles & end up getting deeper in debt with the store trying to feed their familles on low wages & high prices set for the soul purpose of keeping them dependent on the coal mine.
In 1908 Tom's grandfather borrowed a truck..wink.. & loaded up his family then drove it to Kansas City, Kansas where his brother lived & promised him a job at the packing house where he worked.
Tom was at his father's side when he died in the hospital after a long illness 1978.
One of the last things his father would,to him,was for Tom to take care of his mother ( Tom's mother) for him.
Tom's mother & father celebrated their 54 wedding anniversary the spring before his father's death
Tom's mother never learn to drive so after his fathers death he had to take on a lot of his father's duties such as drive his mother to the store, doctor appointments, ect .. from waiting for his mother to get done with her shopping he learnt the patience of a Saint..& also a marriage is where both ppl need to put their hearts & Soul with alot of understanding into it ~SMILES~
I guess after his father's death he realized how hard his father's job really was..smiles
Some where towards the end of 1990s Tom's mother developed Alzheimer's disease & he finally realized his father's concerns about his mother.
Tom's family was either busy with their own family or lived on the other side of the country & couldn't help with their mother much ,so the full responsibility fail upon Tom.
He cared for his mother until the spring of 2001 then had to place her in a nursing home where she could receive 24 hour attention.
Tom's mother now lives (mentalwise) back in 1932 & seams to be happy there.
She doesn't remember to much about her children (If anything at all) & besides the Alzheimer's disease she is doing great...she celebrated her 91 birthday on March the 12, 2003..bless her Soul
Tom's sister ( Jerry Gormen"Tripp") Died Thanksgiving Day 2002 from Breast Cancer.
"She was like a mother to me" he said & "She had to take care of kids growing up because our fokes had to work hard so us kids ( 7) could eat & have cloths on our back.
Tom said "Cancer & Alzheimer's disease doesn't run in his family but it goes to show you never thank something like that will never happen to you" " Get tested & visit your doctor yearly if not sooner"
